I installed Automatix. Then installed the Multimedia
Codecs with Automatix. Now ALL the dvd players work
wonderfully. Thank you for your help.

Not sure if this was how it was to be or not.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled libdvdcss w/ different versions of
libdvdread3. It didn't work w/ the version in feisty (hence my bug
report title "no css dvd's work in feisty") but it did work w/ the
version in edgy (which is what I have pinned in apt right now). As I'm
overseas right now and h
I probably wont be able to duplicate this till the middle of April as
I'm in Israel till then (and all my DVDs are in the US).

Hi Shaya, sorry for the confusion. There were several other bugs
reported about the install-css.sh script. Can you open a new bug for
the problem you're seeing with the resulting libdvdcss2? I haven't been
able to reproduce what you're describing.

how would I have filed a bug report "no css dvd's work in feisty" if I
wasn't running feisty?
the bug that was fixed wasn't the bug that I filed, albiet somewhat
related. I HAD libdvdcss already installed. The bug I filed was that
the newest version of libdvdread3 in feisty DID NOT WORK with lib
in feisty the libdvdread3 file was missing the CSS script thus the end user
could not play certain files. a fix should be released according the bug
report.
You would have to install feisty and see if the package in question has been
updated.
If it has not then you will have to manually install
That maybe the case for you, however. the current version of feisty had the
*script* removed from the package thus rendering the installing useless to
the end user. That is what i was bringing to the dev's attention.
As for dvd's running them on a clean edgy install they ran fine for
me,however. I
If one read my comments, it wasn't an issue of not having libdvdcss
installed as it was (from edgy or dapper days). It was an issue of the
updated version of libdvdread not working with libdvdcss, so unsure if
just including the script fixes that problem.

Its possible that the upgrade to Feisty caused the installed css to no
longer function and produce the problem. Then when you reinstalled the
package from Edgy (Which contains the CSS installer) everything would
once again be ok.
That said, the install-css.sh file really needs to be included in
li
this is due to install-css.sh not being installed, nor the user running
it. is this really a good solution?

not true. I've upgraded this laptop from when it was running dapper.
libcss was installed already, it was a libdvdread issue, when I
downgraded to edgy's version (of libdvdread) it works perfectly.

I can confirm this with the current version of libdvdread3 in Feisty
(0.9.7-2); I was able to work around it by installing a package from
Edgy (0.9.6-3ubuntu1).
