On a system upgraded from 8.04 to 8.10:
Using any screensaver (gnome-screensaver ot xscreensaver) screen saver starts
OK, and can be stopped within a few minutes. If I only get back to my desktop a
couple of hours later, either mouse movement or keyboard action stops screen
saver, and I am left
Will do it will take me a few days to take the time, Work, school, etc...
I'll post this to the site when I gather all the information.
However, in the interim, I am using a Dell Inspiron:

I've also encountered a lockup when selecting a screen saver on Ubuntu
8.04. The mouse still moves around but I cannot click on anything. I
am unable to switch to a VT or kill X via CTRL+ALT+Backspace but I can
ssh in.
When the machine is frozen, I can ssh into it from another computer and
top
bluespell, can you try something?
I clicked on a different screen saver after my computer locked up.
Nothing appeared to happen but after about 10 or 15 minutes, it became
responsive again.
It appears that instead of locking up, it was just running really really
slow. Do you get the same
