Same problem here with NVidia prop. drivers. Worked fine in Maverick,
laggs terribly in Natty. Disabling vblank synchronization does not
resolve the problem.
(Strictly speaking, what lags is mouse movement. i.E. when I zoom in on
a video and don't move the mouse, everything is fine.)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, the package installation error message
that you have received is actually a failure with lzma and a generic
gnome-terminal is also affected, certainly on my systems. You have to
try harder to crash it, but it still crashes. Also there is the matter
of the strange on-screen artefacts.

EARS Advanced Format drives unter natty still park their heads every
eight seconds smartctl in rc.local does lower the Load_Cycle_Count

I'm also running 11.04 (with all updates) and Banshee 2.0.0-2ubuntu1
Every time I install banshee-extension-clutterflow Banshee won't get
past a completely grey window and I have to force quit, as soon as I
remove the package again it's fine.

Bearing in mind that it's early days for Unity, it's as well to remember that

builds are tested in the wild on us. Only then can they be 'completed'.

I am having the same problem. It just wont scrobble to LastFM, no matter
how many times I deactivate the link between banshee and last. Even if I
remove the application from LastFM and start the whole process again, it
still fails.

I just noticed Bug #559525 already addresses the /var/log problem and
Bug #582102 already asks for a configurable ignore-list.
Still, I leave this bug open, since the problem with encrypted /home is
security related.

Bugs,
I was in way to setup the Nouveau experimental 3D driver (#73) . but I've
found unity-2d is working OK with NVIDIA recommended drivers.
sudo apt-get install unity-2d
unity-2d is not so fancy, but it works, it has lower reqs, and games
also work.

A few weeks before the release of 11.04, there was evidently an update which
caused at least part of the problem to cease. I still saw the 10.04
background on the login screen (which switched immediately to the 10.10
background once I had logged in), but the udev message no longer appeared.

@Pedro Carrasco : perhaps your directory structure is not exactly what
the patch expects.
You might use the alternate patch syntax:
patch /pathto/originalfile /pathto/patchfile
In my case i didn't apply the omnibook patch,
