bcmwl-kernel-source does prevent my system (Gateway MX6454 with
14e4:4311) from shutting down, suspend/restart, and reboot.

Thank you very much for this bug report. I've encountered some stability
issues with USB3 hard drives and the 3.11.0-13-generic kernel, but your
report makes it sound like it effects all USB devices (at least when
plugged into USB3 ports, it seems).

2 bugs are the cause of this:
1) Tabs does not respect the ordering of its children. It always appends new
tabs at the end.
2) If the ordering of children changes, Tabs ignores it.

Upon waking my computer from sleeping, the system date and time (top
right-hand corner) appear to still be the same as when I first put the
computer to sleep. Once awake, the date and time will continue to move
forward from that point, but will never auto-correct. Only restart

Because a database with all the filenames is stored under /var/cache/locate/
So some stranger could guess what files you have in your encrypted /home
partition, if /var is not encrypted.
I resolved this for me long ago by replacing /var/cache/locate/ by
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
