Just the same behaviour, i.e. the led goes solid off on sleep. If I think a
bit, this may be what one wants, because this will spare some µAh and lengthen

For what it's worth, I think it's an issue with the Unity shutdown
mechanism, I've had this problem for months on multiple kernels, various
video drivers and have attempted all the suggested workarounds to no avail.

I tried the Ubuntu kernel 3.13RC2, and the CPU user, sys, idle, and wait
information making no sense at all issue remains.
As I see it now, if there is a fb0 device, then the issue will exist:

believe, that you can fix the issue by manually deinstalling libmotif-dev
before you continue:
apt-get remove libmotif-dev
And then try to install libmotif again.

Hmm, where did you get the 2.3.4-1 package from? In the official
package, /usr/bin/uil was not in libmotif-dev in that version anymore
AFAICT.

OK, after quite some time trying to upgrade the BIOS I finally succeed.
For other people that might find this information useful, this is how I
finally did it, using FreeDOS and an usb drive.
1. Install unetbootin: apt-get install unetbootin
2. connect the USB drive
3. umount it if it was
