gparted by hand to get version 0.25. The most recent version available
via package manager is 0.19. The man page for gparted does not say any

MySQL doesn't require a mail server, having postfix as a dependancy also
presents lack of choice to user and is counter productive for a server product
to install
You're probably better off removing the Debian cron job and modifying
the php.ini yourself to your prefered settings (even if you revert them
back to the original PHP settings).
Unfortunately, it doesn't seam like anyone at Ubuntu is interested in
changing this away from the Debian modifications,

I found another issue with this cron job today.
One of our web servers was experiencing very high load, I assumed we had
high traffic and went to take a look at where the traffic was coming

We had so many PHP session files in the folder that the cron had

ubuntu-minimal...which is not recommended. Really, I don't see why these are
so tied together. I understnad ntpdate relying on ubuntu-minimal, but the
reverse should not be true.

I see this problem in Kubuntu Karmic as well. I've worked around it by
adding /etc/init.d/samba reload to /etc/rc.local, since I'm not sure
if there's a valid reason to start Samba way before CUPS. Probably
adding a check at the end of the CUPS startup script to see if smbd is

/var/spool/postfix/dev/random (urandom exists). This is on Precise with

It looks like bug #49178 has a lot of people experiencing this crash. It
is also marked as Critical, while this is only Medium. Now that I know
the exact cause, it will be much easier to avoid this.

of kernel upgrades and such in mind.

Generally, it's good practice to keep at least one previous kernel
around when installing a new one, in case you find problems after the
initial succesful boot with the new kernel. For example, an updated
driver in the new kernel could cause instability under circumstances
that only crop up after

I was trying and xfs partition. andi5 says that he had the same
problem and that it was b/c of the XFS filesystem. Apparently his
worked with a jfs install. I installed using text mode and got it up
and running. The screen went blank for a bit but ipressed enter after
the HDD indicator stopped
