Hey folks, worth noting that I'm no longer experiencing this problem.
The difference is I've switched from lighting to sunbird calendar some
time back. Since removing lightning, I've had no more problems with
windows freezing... for me Sunbird is a better calendar solution, as it
speeds up
I also have this problem (using a laptop with an Intel GMA 945 graphics
controller). I can confirm that no crash happens with the following
sequence:
Boot laptop with external monitor unplugged,
Disable visual effects,
Plug in the monitor,
Type xrandr --auto in Terminal,

I installed the 2.6.31-16.51~pre2 kernel from comment #68 on my Asus
EeePC 1000H and it fixes the problem. I can now use the Fn+F2 combo to
toggle the state of my wlan card without any annoying system freezes.

To be more precise this helps rm /home/$USER/.thumbnails/normal/*
but after I go back and then forward, it dosent seem to list the .avi
files. I have to remove the files from normal.

I use sox to redirect the audio from mi tv tuner card, using SAA7134 drivers,
both cpus are under strong charge and periodically the sound skips and I find
some warning ALSA under-run or ALSA over-run as well.

So, I went into the Synaptic pacakge manager, and installed the linux-
backports-modules-alsa-karmin-generic
I still have no sound, and have a dv7 3065dx What else can I do? I
just did a fresh install of 9.10 and am At a loss. I am still VERY new
to this, but would like to get this issue

It seemed worth the try but no better. It shows an aversion to /dev/sda*.
When I select any partition under /dev/sda or /dev/sdb, it fixates on the
/dev/sdb so the cure has *not* been effected.
That aside, if there is a new version of pysdm, why didn't it show up as
an update in
I have the same laptop 5635Z and experiencing the same bug. I've found
someone on the forum pointed out that this is due to incorrect detect of
TV output hence the main display is turned off. Look at this:

For your verification, connect an external monitor via Laptop's VGA
connection and turn on, it should display the booting process, then GDM
without problem. AFAIK this is a show stopper for Karmic, most of the
laptops with Intel GMA suffered this problem. It definitely have to be
fixed in Karmic
I'm seeing related problems in two machines, but I can say that Firefox
is not involved in my case... The machines worked well until Koala
upgrades apparently destroyed the sound capabilities...
(Mostly commenting here so that (I think) I'll be subscribed for updated
information on this bug in
Maybe related: I could not eject the medium (at all), then it ejected
after a minute or two. See bug 489427.
