Hi Chris,
I just had a chance to speak with an upstream developer about your
issue. He said perhaps it was caused by your SDVO card was either not
seated correctly or not connected right inside your machine. In any
case we've not seen anyone else with this same issue so I am going to
guess it is
I am also experiencing this issue almost 75% of the time. System boots
fine and works for a short period, then the problem as described above
appears and the only way out is a reboot.

Jason, does xrandr not allow to disable the tv output?
So
xrandr -q
lists your outputs on the card, eg TV-0, then to disable it:
xrandr --output TV-0 --off
If this works, you can add it to xorg, see xrandr man and wiki
