also (via xorg-edgers ppa) but found it seg faulted within a couple of
hours. My 8600 GT card has worked fine for years with ubuntu but this
seg fault started with Ubuntu 12.04 at nvidia v295.40 and has occurred

Hi, I have the same problem on Thinkpad X61s with Intel GM965/GL960.

me.
If VGA attached before poweron, BIOS post screen will aper on VGA, not on eDP.
eDP is completely turned off. This probably the reason why it is "lost" in this
case.

@Steve Riley, well I'd make that 3 data points. If you look at #279 my
issue is USB-related. Although for me it seems to be Ubuntu falling out
with the USB hub in my docking station.
Out of the docking station, or with USB devices plugged into the laptop
and not the docking station, and I'm fine.
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.
