Re: (313) Mad Mike Story.....
I wouldn't be surprised. I've heard Mike tell stories of his ballgames before and they're pretty hilarious. You'd hear about how umpires, players, and the sponsors of the teams fight over some play on the field, cussin' each other out. He coached little league for a time and the parents of both teams would go at it too...some dude would be selling beer at the game...and it's little league for Christ sakes. =) Marina In a message dated 9/7/99 2:41:16 PM, [EMAIL PROTECTED] writes: At 12:20 PM 9/7/99 -0700, you wrote: Anyone from Detroit or anyone who knows Mike Banks might be able to shed some light on this little beauty... It's Baseball season theres no chance of getting Mike to leave Detroit Yes i've heard that Mike is a huge baseball/Detroit Tigers fan and frequently attends the home games. remember that Tiger Stadium is just down the street from Submerge. (313) pick it up!!
hey y'all- check out the new 2x12 on the iceland imprint, thule records... thule #012--Den Nard Husher--Nard's Groove Vol. 1 a wicked release all the way around--deep techno, bangin' techno, a few down tempo experimental tracks, and (this is where i make this relevant to the 313)- a track that samples the outsiders (purpose maker)-- it almost sounds like a remix, but there is no mention of either jeff or pm in the label info.--i hope they didn't think it would go unnoticed! rip-off would be a harsh term, they use the sample tastefully and create a nice cut of their own...i prefer to hear someone staight up sampling mills instead of attempting a weak imitation. (i.m.o., ignacio's humana-ised is one of the best floor tracks of '99) peace, enjoy-- israel ps-speaking of mills, does anyone know who the hell is being interviewed on the new tomorrow release yet???

(313) N.P.R. news bumpin' Stewart Walker
Hows this for trainspotting: Tonight I'm listening to Public Radio Internationals world news program (named, appropriately enough, the World) which is carried on our local N.P.R. affiliate, and what's playing quietly in the background of a short information segment (was it someone reading the credits?), but wait, I think I know that track... the melody, the hi-hats.. is my turntable signal bleeding through the FM receiver? No, it's Stewart S. Walker's It's Process Not Substance off the _Abstract Symbols of Decadence EP_ on the Tektite label! Now they've also done little tiny culture/music features on French hip-hop, and the occassional Talvin Singh east-meets-west kind of scoop but Tektite is such a tiny indy techno label... someone on their production staff knows what up!! Anyone know who the mole is? Give them my regards on track selection. :) peace -- Matt MacQueen [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.reverbmag.com archived radio shows -- http://macqueen.com/radio

Here's some further info via a review: Jordan Fields :: Off the Muthafunkin Hook E.P. :: Catalyst Recordings :: CAT 9906 Jordan Fields puts out a 4 track EP on Chicago-based Catalyst Recordings, operated by Terry Mullan. It's been a while since I've seen a Catalyst release come my way, so this one has taken me by surprise as it leans more on the house side than past releases. The first side features two filtered disco house numbers - one dropping a vocal sample in and out, and the other offering more of a solid ride. The flip features the two tracks that really caught my ear - thick house grooves all the way! The first pulls in a gritty saxophone sample that is cut up and looped through a big bassline. The second is given a bit of a Motown feel with the sample it uses. I'll be watching out for more new Catalyst releases. 3.5/5 T

This might be a bit off topic...but that never stopped anyone before. I've been outta the loop for sometime and my return to OH would be complete loss if not for being closer to Detroit and Chicago. (313) KRS-1, integral, jazz fest, dally
tp is not the only person upset at the promoters of the krs-1 stop the violence [sic] show. after taking your ticket (no stub left for proof, of course) you see the schedule which read 3am (can't remember name) opening up for KRS-1 4am next performer so, IF he showed up, he would have been on stage for less than one hour, most likely for 1/2 hour. also, sound system in main room was down for about 45 minutes while someone stood on stage yelling check.check.check over over until my head was pounding. third, some dude got shot in the leg/ankle. . .i left about 1:15, not too happy. did anyone on this list stay? did he show? i just had the feeling of sucker stamped on my head. . . but, all was made better, saturday night in pittsburgh. (sorry, i missed clark) the kooky scientist was funky, john acquaviva was ON, and richie was at his sadistic, manipulative, HARDEST best. it was one of those nights that had that good rave feeling of a communal experience...may sound cheesy, but a couple years ago, almost every one i went to had that feeling that you didn't just party your ass off, but you had had an _experience_ with everyone else there. ya know, you're tired as hell, legs of jelly, but something keeps moving. everyone was dancing, sure there were drugs, but i didn't have that icky feeling that everyone was there to just get off, forget the music. the phyrl crew did a wonderful job in recreating a detroit feeling in their space with the black plus8 plastic, lighting, visuals. i felt at home! also, much respect for the no glow sticks allowed signs, although later in the night someone snuck some in. all in all, one of those nights you smile about when you think about it everything is techno for a while afterwards. lastly, made it back to the d to catch yusef lateef monday night it was incredible. abstract, innovative, soulful. it was worth sittin through the rain for. you gotta love the jazz fest. one last thing-if you haven't been there recently, check out motormouthmagazine.com for a list/schedule of performers on the electronica stage at the dally in the alley this saturday, sept. 11. (from 4-10:30) the performances will be webcasted @ our site, raveworld.net, theplayground.com kelli
