To clarify: *Stomp do not have a licensing deal with Transmat. They are importing it through another agency.* Stomp is respected and supplies some smaller stores too. They handle Distance and Guidance, both of them good underground labels. Their staff know their shit. And Sanity does have some good stuff among the crap. Eg, I got the Paperclip People For My Peepz single there - I couldn't find it anywhere else. Ok there is crap in these bigger chain stores. I wasn't promoting them necessarily. I feel neutral about them. Guys are privileged that they can go to small specialist stores and be treated with dignity. There's a lot of sexism in club culture and it often starts at the local male-run record store. At least in the bigger chains like HMV and Sanity there is less elitism and snobbishness that works against females trying to get into this music. Dave PS for those who don't know, sanity is the k-mart of music stores :) Given the choice- I'd only part with my dosh to a man, who if you cut open his veins, would bleed detroit techno, infecting the west with the funk. Re: (313) mills, controversy, and superstar djs
I think there is *one* other Detroit DJ who arouses similiar passions. and WHO might you mean ?? are we talking about derrick may here? isn't he known for pulling superstar dj bullshit when playing out or am I way off base here? I wished I hadn't posted this now. :) I didn't think folks would do anything else but flick over it. This comment has been interpreted in bugged out ways. I wasn't out to be mischief-making. Derrick? The UK media make Derrick out to be a superstar tripper. That Muzik article of two years ago was very superficial, damaging and cruel, I thought. He is deeper than that. Listen to his music or the DJing and you will feel the real Derrick. C
Re: (313) another mills worshipper.....
Can I just say that the Mills interview in the recent 7 magazine is outstanding and gives much credence to his music and ideas. His comments on Japanese distribution actually make a lot of sense in the context of the article. It's issue 16 and should be available through DMC outlets worldwide. The guy is a thinker. I feel that his music should be considered in relation to the concepts driving them. Spoke to Mrs Wood today for a story I'm doing and she was saying how she and K Hand discussed a collaboration at one stage. Mrs Wood feels that she wouldn't measure up in the studio. I say go for it sisters. C I'll personally give props to any creative artist who goes to such lengths to ensure that their art is the focus of attention, and not their personal lives. It is ridiculous to assume that an artist owes their fans anything more than art. fuck the cult of personality and Big ups to JD Salinger Thomas Pynchon Mad Mike Banks The Unknown Organist The Guerrilla Grls Jeff Mills etc etc.
Re: (313) mills, controversy, and superstar djs
May is not an attention seeker. Attention seeks May. He just has energy, charisma and poetry. The bullshit comes from the UK press. And for those who are interested, there's a couple of really special things (#2 and #3) on a label called Toytronic. One is a clear 10 by Num Num and the other is a compilation called Signalflow. Weird, wonderful and beautifully electronic. The first one's great as well, 'Load Error' by Gimmik. Wacked-out aphex-ish stuff with a definite commodore 64 feel. I think Toytronic is a Woem Interface subsidiary. Yeah the Load Error EP is quite amazing. Toytronic do have a website at http://www2.crosswinds.net/~toytronic/ but it doesnt seem to be working at the moment, and it's painfully slow when it does. Wow, this shit's gonna be bigger than Episode 1! It's great to see an event like this taking place, it's obviously taken some time, effort and cash to prepare, I'm sure it was hard work! Can't wait for the British leg of the tour(which is when, by the way?) A little curious as to the line, can't work out if like the mercury music award, the crew members selected are those needing the most spotlight (exc.
