(313) record mailer help/dj assault

2000-02-03 Thread environ
Have to ask for some help, little OT - I'm looking for record mailers. I
need to find the envelope-style kind that fit a 12 or two, like Europeans
have access to. Are those available in the States? Any help provided will
be much, much appreciated! If I see another one of these
fold-together-and-tape deals I'm gonna freak out.

DJ Assault: the recent 12 is great - the minimal, 808-ey cut on it is
sweet! Don't know the name of this because it's an Intuit-Solar white, but
it mixes really well with the older stuff. Metro Area plugged it in
between some Profile and Emergency records last weekend and it was tight.

Thanks,
-mg

2000-02-03 Thread Javier Drada
Reflections will be hosting mixes by Mr. Larry Heard a.k.a. Mr. Fingers -
Fingers Inc. The mixes were received today and an announcement of the actual
broadcast will be made shortly. Right now Flyfm.net is broadcasting High
bandwidth only, so those of us that use 56k and under modems are screwed. So
as soon as we can figure out when other bandwidths will be made available we
will decide on a date. For now we would appreciate it if you could spread
the word.

Peace...

The 12 on Intuit-Solar is by DJ Godfather. The EP is called Via Satellite

Voiteck and Boogs got back from their US tour/holiday quite a few months
ago. By all accounts they had a great time, hanging out in San Fran. staying
at DJ Rush's place in Chicago, visiting Canada... and of course spending
some time in the Detroit area.

I've heard all the stories... both of them playing with Rolando (and the
party getting busted), night-time radio in Detroit, hanging out with BMG
(and heaps of other cool people), and of course all the records they bought
(damn Voiteck bought back heaps of sealed Alice Coltrane records)!

Boogs is blowing things up in Melbourne at the moment... if any of you guys
are thinking about visitng make sure you check out his on/off residency at
Centiphugal on Friday nights, and his own night at the Lounge on Saturdays.

2000-02-03 Thread Michael Adamczyk

I just picked up Light and Dark by Oliver Ho: Wow! Deep, hard and
minimal. He combines hard minimal riffs with eerie dark ambience. The
background ambience reminds me very much of Coil. Both tracks can be
pitched down and incorporated into a down-tempo deep techno mix. Great
stuff kids.

Just picked up this disc on F Communications after hearing a few mixes
by him somewhere. Very diverse and hard to pigeonhole (it starts off
with a slight breakbeat feel, moves to a house feel and then some nice
313-ish vibe), featuring fem vox. Thought I'd mention it here because
the stuff on it that IS this-listy is very nice indeed - and there is
enough to justify checking it out. At points the disc gets a bit poppy
for me (and I like pop), but on a full spin it gets good marks. Also
pulled out Taylor Deupree's Drum Computer for the first time in a LONG
time today and was pleasantly surprised to hear more input fom this side
of town than I'd detected whenn I first bought it. 12k is more than just
clicks and whirrs.
