DBX and Co. throws down in Chicago
Friday night at Red No. 5 in Chicago, this club was treated to Dan Bell throwing down some great tunes, (including a personal fave: track from Metro Area EP on Environ!) sexy crowd really up for it, and loved the dark ass dancefloor, no lights required. Dan got the place smokin with a blend of US flavors of house/techno and then Heiko (last name?) took over. (I think is the Playhouse label head? or involved w/ Playhouse in a major way). Whooo, each sucessive track was better than the previous, he totally rocked it playing of course a heavy selection of Playhouse stuff like LoSoul, etc. and also heard some good Mike Grant on Moods Grooves, a ton of shit I've never heard and was just loving soaking in it. Basically the best night of music out I've heard in Chicago, and at a packed club no less, restoring my faith that occassinally the clubs here do get a clue from time to time, and the Material crew gets respect for this lineup! Great abstract house and techno all night mixed perfectly with the Jack and Ginger Ale. Jeff Mills / The Shock of the New
I was watching the final episode This Is Modern Art: The Shock Of The Now (Oxford TV/Channel 4) last week on ABC TV (the Australian ABC not the US one). And i the last final minutes of the show when they were talking about the future of modern art + Jeff MIll's 'i9' - was playing! very appropriate i thought.. anybody else have any anecdotes involving 313 tracks on tv programs/movies i remember a discussion a while back (like 2 tyeas ago) about this sort of thing. Friday night at Red No. 5 in Chicago, this club was treated to Dan Bell throwing down some great tunes, (including a personal fave: he's got a great new mix cd out on tresor playing a lot of this kind of minimal dry house like farben and losoul and dbx stuff - really crisp mixing too. also the new terrence dixon lp on tresor is very lush and deep. a couple of tracks in the model 500-starlight vein - lots of warm chords to get lost in - cheers simon

Re: (313) Laurent Garnier + Kevin Saunderson
Kevin Saunderson has been working on a new album for Inner City; that was the plan at Christmas/New Year. I think it was almost done when he came out to Australia to play and for a break. He said after that he would like to do one more E Dancer album and another Inner City and then he would like to work in film scoring; just to try something different. RE: (313) Columbia House
On the topic of Columbia House: at the Rotterdam Film Festival two months ago, I saw the movie/documentary The Target Shoots First. It's The Target Shoots First premiered last summer at the Chicago Underground Film Festival. It rocked. Chris Wilcha was the guy who made it. A journalist friend of mind did a feature on him for the Associated Press after seeing the film. Apparently he went back and worked at Columbia House _again_ after the film was completed - AND continued filming his exploits. He's quit again now, though. Brian --- Brian J. Has anyone see a new magazine Coda that Laurent Garnier has started up (or is starting up) in London? I would love to track it down. I read a news item about it in a local magazine. Also this came up on the list a while back: does anyone know the story behind Cari Lekebusch alledgedly being compelled to drop the name of his Hybrid Productions at the insistence of the Welsh breaktrance outfit called Hybrid? I think it was raised in the context of 'industry machinations' when news of the DJ Rolando/Sony episode first broke. Cheers C

UR album from Canadian Label?
Hi, from tokyo. I found an compilation album called Detroit Hype Stuff (You Gotta Move To) from Vibe Records Inc., Canada. Does anyone have any information about it like when it was compiled or how it came out. There is no credit of the recording year but it seems to be the first LP totally produced by UR. It contains 9 tracks featuring UR, Robert Noise, Yolanda Reynolds, Sleepy D, Naughty Nikki etc. Most track sounds like late 80's early techno/electro style and some are like chicago hip house stuff like those from Trax. I've never heard any one of songs here ever. The track listing and excerpts from recording credit is as follows side A 1. Hype Stuff (Under Ground Resistance) 2. Fashion Show (Spoken By: M.C. LO) 3. Drop The Funk (Spoken By: Sleepy D and the Boss) 4. Time, Space, Energy (Equals Techno) (Transmitted by Naughty Nikki) Additional Transmission: Clarence Howard 5. Dance To The Beat (Vocals: Yolanda Reynolds) Words: Robert Noise side B 1. D.J.'s Pump It Up (Spoken By: M.C. LO) 2. Doin' You In (Transmitted by: Naughty Nikki) 3. You've Got To Show Me (Mike Clark) 4. Sins Against The Race (A Word From: Robert Noise) Executive Producers: Williams Moceri All tracks produced by: Underground Resistance Cover Art: Robert Noise/R.E.Gibson Under Ground Resistance Is: Mike Banks/Jeff Mills *** 野間易通 (Noma Yasumichi) MUSIC MAGAZINE INC. phone:81-3-3263-3241 fax: 81-3-3263-3276 ***

The End Recordings - Question
Hey all just a quick question: I was at a record store the other day and came across this piece of vinyl, the sleeve was a very dark grey with some dark writing on it, 'The End Recordings'. Turns out it was a track done by Mr. C (presumably the Label Owner), and a remix by Juan Atkins. The title escapes me right now, but I was wondering if anyoen out there could give me a recommendation, or maybe even a quick review of this piece of vinyl. The place where I was had no listening stations so I couldn't listen to it there. Any and all help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks for your time. detroit in toronto
I'm going to be in Toronto from this thursday till next wednesday. If there is anyone on the list who can list any good clubs or club nights in that time, as well as a few of the better record stores (electro being my first love, but most of y'all on the list have great taste, just don't send me to tribal sunshine's progressive house and hemp goods) I would love to get some info before I take off. Please email me privately if you know some can't miss places. Thanks, Jason
Fwd:(313) detroit in toronto
Nice, I live just outside Toronto in Oakville so obviously Toronto is where I do most of my record shopping. Electro eh? Hrmm..Not a ton of Electro in Toronto, I'd suggest trying Play De Record on Yonge St. It's about a block or so north of Dundas. They haven't had much new techno lately though. If it's minimal you are looking for, in particular anything on Kompakt, try Speed records on Queen St. Last time I was there they had a huge double pack of all Kompakt artists. It's interesting to say the least:) Latez Rich. On Mon, 03 Apr 2000 14:01:48 -0500 jason hopfner [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I'm going to be in Toronto from this thursday till next wednesday.
