UR: << This style have been copyed under a lot of hardcore or trance forms, with a lot less quality. >> who da hell wrote this. i bet there would had been more to say about UR about their early days then refering to hardcore & trance, pretty empty phrases that really go no where. looking at that i wouldn`t believe that they are giving a show for promotors who actually don`t seem to know to much about detroit history & UR ...i mean why the hell should they?

UR in Europe
Hi everyone, this is my first message to the 313 mailing list. If i translate in English: Underground resistance are the other side of Detroit techno. Re: [313] SG's a has been record store
all this moaning about SG,and Im wondering if anyone is telling them that they are unsatisfied with their behavior _directly_. Instead of complaining HERE, why not just tell them directly in a constructive manner. Email the shop at: [EMAIL PROTECTED] I suggest not calling them, they are usually really busy during the day or preoccupied or wait until you can talk to Adam,Frankie or Heather directly or Jon who heads up mail order-last I checked. As long as SG is making the rent and the heavy traffic in the shop I doubt much will change, but I think its alot more pro-active to tell them directly instead of doing it here. THIS ISN'T A FLAME,just a constructive suggestion diana Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com
florian re-entry + travel plans
hi This is Andrew Chuter, aka florian, from Sydney, Australia. I'm back on this list after a 2.5 year absence. There's some info about my music interests at: http://spraci.cia.com.au/profiles/florian.html In '98 I backpacked around Japan, the UK, and Europe with a bunch of records. Musical highlights included seeing Kraftwerk at Sonar and dj'ing in Kyoto and at Tresor's headquarters night. Thanks to those I hooked up with along the way, including Otto, on this list. After returning I started a radio program with my pals Agent Patrick, James Bond, and Color, called Dark Energy. http://www.darkenergy.nitro.com.au/home.htm I sadly left that behind to teach English in Tokyo, where I am now, sans vinyl. A few Detroit related CD's I recommend from the last few years include Drexciya - Neptune's Lair Dopplereffekt - Gesamtkunstwerk Jeff Mills - From the 21st Dan Curtin - Pregenesis Boards of Canada - SKAM008CD Warp 10+1 Influences and Bodenstandig 2000 on Rephlex for those with a sense of humour. Anyway, I'm off travelling again, this time to New York, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Detroit and Chicago, for at least 5 weeks, maybe more. I'm leaving Tokyo on Sept. 15th (the 1st day of the Olympics). I like meeting people with similar interests, so if any of you live around there, and want to get together, please drop me an e-mail. I'm hoping to see some good DJ's and live acts. Besides music (Detroit, 'idm', ambient, jazz, and world) I'm also into art, film, books, history, science, nature, hiking, etc. cheers Andrew p.s. shout out also to Patrick and Phil...

Re: [313] millshouse?
He played housier in Sydney at Home on the same tour - one of my fave gigs ever, even though I had a migraine! I hear a 'housier' shift in his music myself, though it is still minimal. Maybe we are moving into a new era of techno - the music is 'deeper' and more melodic again. I wish Mills would do more club dates over 'raves'. The crowds are more sophisticated. If you like Mills, you'll like Oliver Ho's new album - the best minimal techno Mills didn't make. Excellent cerebral stuff. I saw Pacou last night here in Melbourne. The turn-out was small (I think a lot of people are too tired to party Friday nights - they want housier sounds instead of techno maybe) yet appreciative but I didn't really get into it (I was not in the mood since everyone had forgotten my birthday and I had expensive iMac computer repairs to worry about after a mega crash on an important deadline!!). Actually Nasty Girl is an old Vanity 6 song and the Nuttin' Nyce cover is kinda lame. Vanity 6 was Prince's answer to the Mary Jane Girls and in fact he 'stole' Vanity away from Rick James (or so the story goes) and they had this rivalry thing going on for years afterwards. I have the Vanity 6 album and I would say that phase of Prince's career was quite influential on the likes of Green Velvet through to Timbaland, in terms of the minimal production style and humour. The original has the droll lines, 'I need 7 inches or more' and 'wake me up when you're done' that kinda thing.

Re: [313] SG's not what it used to be-GRAMAPHONE
If I remember correctly, the original Imports store was somewhere in the South Loop (between the Loop itself and Chinatown)... then around '91 or '92 someone told me they had relocated up to a building on the northside... I believe it was North Ave. somewhere around Milwaukee Ave. I think they closed their doors a few years back, I haven't heard anything of them since then. Another decent shop for old Chicago house goodies (and techno as well, btw) is Hot Jams at 5012 S. Pulaski. About half of their inventory is used vinyl. Two things I don't like about this shop though is the fact that all of the vinyl they have in the bins is kept under lock and key... so if you go there in person to flip through their inventory, it can get pretty aggravating in a hurry to try to find something. The other thing is that they charge an arm and a leg for used vinyl, a lot of what they have will set you back $10 per 12" or more. However, they do have a lot of hard to find classic stuff that you might not find at Gramaphone or 2nd Hand Tunes... everytime I've been there they've always had a good amount of stuff on the Trax label and DJ International, etc. They do mail order as well, their number is 773-581-JAMS. I still prefer Gramaphone over the others, as their selection (at least where new releases are concerned) is second to none in the city. Now, if they would just figure out a way to create better parking arrangements in the area :) BTW, for whoever was trying to reach Gramaphone's web site and was unable to get it to come up, their number is 773-472-3683 if you want to do a mail order from them or get some info... millshouse?
After a number of listens to "every dog..." I want to agree with others on the list who have suggested it's a masterpiece. To me it's a new direction for Mills: he combines the floorfriendly momentum of the purposemaker releases with the abstract sounds of his axis stuff to produces a housesound uniquely his own (millshouse, perhaps). Has anyone heard him play recently? He played Perth about 3 months ago, and while excellent didn't descend into the housier sounds of the lp. Do you think he's signalling a shift in sensibilities with the lp (dj-wise, I mean), or merely presenting another side of himself as producer? Also, does anyone know the significance of the 'millsart' moniker he uses for this release? I know he's used it before, but not on all the axis releases. Which releases has he used it for, and how are they different to his "Jeff Mills" releases? Lots of questions, but releases like these demand them Cheers Chris
