UR in Europe part 2

2000-08-02 Thread Jean-Michel Lavergne
Hi everyone, thanks for the many reply i got for the previous part of the
subject. i've sended your commentaries to this friend and here what he answered:

English version.: UR coul NOT have had an influence on hardcore, IT IS
hardcore! I remember in 1992 i was beginning listening to techno and i was
reading u.s. mag STREETSOUND and the X serie was filed under hardcore like
everything that came from Belgium (T-99, Franke Wulf...) and Mentasm from
Beltram
Chicago house influenced Gabba and hardcore but from what TRAX and Larry
Sherman was inspired. Juan Atkins of course... Derrick May was the first to
bring modern models of TB-808 from Japan in 85 and Marshall Jefferson and
Farley Jackmaster Funk brought their own soon after.

Other commentaries? Thanks a lot.

RE: [313] tressor 8

2000-08-02 Thread Jason Birchmeier
I actually just wrote a review for the album. Here's my views:

The eighth Tresor compilation finds the Berlin label moving away from one
particular sound towards a more diverse range of styles, reflecting the
changing face of techno at the end of the 20th century. Perhaps the biggest
surprise comes when the album begins with some down-tempo dub techno
courtesy of Round Two (better known as Basic Channel) and Savvas Ysatis.
This mellow pace brings a refreshing sense of serenity to the otherwise
harsh sound of Tresor. From there, the album slowly begins to pick up pace,
moving into the mid-tempo listening techno of Stewart S. Walker and Terrence
Dixon. These two artists in particular present the sort of emotive songs one
would expect from a less dance floor-orientated label than Tresor. Similar
to these two artists' inclusions, Drexciya's Species of the Pod -- the
opening track from the mysterious Detroit artist's excellent Neptune's Lair
album -- brings some electro flavor to the compilation, another style not
often associated with Tresor. Aril Brikha's Groove La Chord then begins
the album's climb towards dance floor orientated music, with its slowly
building synth stabs. From there, Tresor 2000 heads into the sort of dense,
intense, and hard techno most associate with the time-tested Berlin label.
Of these latter tracks, Claude Young's Rise stands out with its thick wall
of buzzing static that functions as a foreboding curtain hovering in the
background of the 909 kick drum-driven track. The contributions by Sender
Berlin, Pacou, Diskordia, and James Ruskin all deserve recognition as well,
with each heading off in a different style of techno: Basic Channel-style
hallucinogenic reverb, Purpose Maker-style rhythm-dominated tribal
percussion, Axis-style high-tech man versus machine warfare, and
Surgeon-style pounding mesmerization, respectively. Though one really can't
complain about any of Tresor's past releases in the mid to late '90s, since
they are a label continually associated with quality techno, it is
refreshing to see them branch out in different directions that aren't
necessarily confined to the dance floor.

i just listened to Tressor Comp Vol 8 last night. to tell you the truth i
am kinda disappointed by it. the only track on it that i really liked was
the new Claude Young one. it seems to me that claude young can
 do no wrong
right now. am i the only one that thinks that??? anyways i would much
rather listen to tressor vol 4 or vol 5. both of those are excellent.

That makes things a bit clearer. I looks like your friend is taking hardcore
in the 92 context (pre-gabber). It should IT WAS hardcore not IT IS
hardcore UR has moved on since then and diversified their sound. Sheez,
haven't you listened to any UR releases since 92 or something. That sound is
in the past.

Just because some is filed under a certain category in a magazine doesn't
absolutely make it genre X. Music doesn't always fit into nice pigeonholes.
Think of those sections as best fit.

Stevie Wonder's IF bootleg, and other classics.

2000-08-02 Thread JovanBlade
Greetings Cats!

I am trying to get my hands on a copy of Stevie Wonder's IF bootleg remix.
I am also looking for the 12inch of The Isley Brother's Harvest For The
World
(must be in mint condition).

This next request is going to sound crazy, but in 1994, I did a remix of
Loleatta Holloway's Dreaming along with Andrew Komix which was released on
Six/6 Sony UK. My last two copies of this record were lost/stolen during a
trip to Spain when Singapore Airlines lost my records. I need this record not
just for my mix, but for Andrew's smokin' hot version.

I need at least two (2) copies of each record, and I am willing to pay TOP
DOLLAR for them. Anyone with info, please e-mail me privately at:

THANX!
