Groovetech Radio London is live

2000-12-13 Thread Alex Hillinger
What up 313?

I'm happy to say that we have *officially* launched Groovetech Radio
London today. Archived sets from Mixmaster Morris, Colin Dale, Matthew
Herbert, The Scratch Perverts, Andrew Weatherall, DJ Craze, Two Lone
Swordsmen (live) and DJ C1 are already up.

Forthcoming London guests include: Circulation, The Orb, Oliver Ho,
Richard Thair, Plus One, Ian O’Brien and Tayo. All sets will be archived
on the Groovetech site.

Here's a direct link to the London page and schedule if you want to
check it out:
http://groovetech.com/broadcast/london

If you see an icon for video and audio then it's broadcasting live,
otherwise you'll just have to listen to archives ;) The live stream
begins at 2pm EST (11am PST) and runs until 8pm EST (5pm PST) on
weekdays right now.

Thanks all,
- Alex

the set from the axisrecords site was recorded sept 2000 in the
liquidroom...

It was rethreaded into one large file (2,5 hours) and can be found on
napster...

so actually, its three CD's...

that is if you keep it all equal..

One thing about that file, there is a fade out, then a fade back in where
there clearly was music cut out of the mix during editing, anyone know how
mush is missing, or what the story is?

new recs and stuff coming out...

2000-12-13 Thread Minto George

ok...let's post some reviews about new music instead
of posting worthless email on topics that don't
interest a majority of the people on this list.

Here are some things I reccommend checkin out for
(christmas, ramadan, haunakah or whatever holiday you
celebrate) shopping:

first off Metro Area 3 on Environ...morgan geist and
darshan jesrani friends on the 3rd installment of
one of the most unique projects to surface in dance
music for some time. They have a very live approach to
it without going overboard on key solos and boring
leads. buy 2 if you see it...or all or any of the
Metro Area 12s...probably the best series of dance
records to come out in the last year and half.

Duplex EP4 on Clone...this is very deep and very
detroit inspired. EP3 was also good so hunt these
down.

Perspects 10 Hover Culture on Clone...if you loved
Desire and Efficiency on ersatz you'll love this new
one 4 tracks by ian r. clark of ersatz audio that
delve into nostalgia with a unique approach.

what else...a few of the new tejada 12s on Palette
moods grooves Detroit with his partner Arian
Leviste...nice stuff he's doing now too...more with
the dope raw samples and hip hop influence...i like
it.

new Dynamo 12 on DIN...very good by the best guy imo
on Chain Reaction Thorsten Proufrock aka Various
Artists.

Jan Jelinek Farben 12 on Klang...who is this gal? or
guy? It is very good...minimal house but not boring
and very good sound design while keeping the raw
element and not overtly overproduced like most of the
boring swedish techno records you hear nowadays.

stuff coming out that I would like info on:

Jeff Samuel 12 on 7th City...I remember Jeff from the
21/22 corp days when he was djing with all the
columbus guys...good to see he's gotten into music
priduction and has stuff coming out on Tektite as
well?...what's that like?

what else is interesting?...heard the ADULT
nausea...still don't have it or this aweosme record by
Dexter on a new dutch label called Klakson which a
certain infamous macho cat named Danny Wolfers has
slab coming out on. what's the word Danny!?

and when is the Parallax corp. album due out?

Off topic or on topic discuss! - minto

'Firefly' on Palette rocks it incredibly hard. Galaga samples and all (well
not actually, but that's what it sounds like) A killer song that sounds
kind of like a slower, housier version of Slam's Dark Forces sits on the
other side. Best thing i've bought in a while.

NEWS: Pump Panel - The Real 'Blade'PRESS STATEMENT FROM MISSILE RECORDS

THE PUMP PANEL - CONFUSION?

In June 1995 Tim Taylor and Dan Zamani (aka The Pump Panel) remixed New
Order's Confusion for London FFrr with the 12 marketed as a 'Pump Panel'
release.

The track was subsequently personally chosen by Wesley Snipes as the opening
techno track to the futuristic Vampire film 'Blade' as the music to the
initial club/bloodbath scene in 1998.

Now 2 tracks that have sampled the entire riff from the track have both
crashed into the top ten in the UK charts: Public Domain's - 'Operation
Blade' and Warp Brothers v. Aquagen's - 'Phatt Bass'.

Missile would just like to say the following: Fact - 2 records currently
in the top 10, namely Warp Brothers vs Aquagen- Phatt Bass and Public
Domain - Operation Blade have nothing whatsoever to do with the film Blade.
What they also have in common is that they both rip off our infamous rude
303 riff from our version of Confusion that was used to devastating effect
in the opening club sequence of the film (Pump Panel credited at the end).
We are in the process of licensing this to Missile Records for immediate
release so that people can check out the genuine article which started all
the fuss.

Confusion was and is the official theme of Blade - ignore the imposters.

beautiful music. similarly for me in that 'era' of music was the
soundtrack for The Mission; Morricone isn't very near detroit, but i
always think of The Mission when i hear Passion.

thoughts... a lot of agreement. And a recommendation that you listen
to the Birdy soundtrack, also by peter gabriel. the whole thing is
completely amazing, but inparticular listen to 'Birdy's Flight' and
'The Heat'. i've always wished that i would hear 'The Heat' at a
party. hawtin could probably pull that off..

And while we're (i'm) talking soundtracks in this vein, the Tangerine
Dream tracks from Risky Business, and in a much stranger way Stewart
Copeland's Rumble Fish, have always had made me think about detroit.

Ground Zero / TechnoTourist sightings

Zero and TechnoTourist, with releases by fellow listmembers The

They've been out for about a month and a half now (so maybe I should've

I'm curious where they showed up. If you've spotted either of those

Russ Gabriel runs the excellent Ferox label, you can get a discography for
that at Amazing Discographies, http://ad.techno.org/generator.html (he
records as himself and Too Funk for Ferox). Also check out his top jazzy
Soul on Wax releases (there are only 2 that I know of, both are excellent)
and a release on Soma, Pilgrimage. The last EP was recorded partly in
Detroit (the Live in Detroit track, imaginatively), hence the title. The
best track on that being Alligator Voodoo (do I remember that right?), IMO.
Including the Fusion 10, that's all I can think of by him - anyone know of

listens to Herbie Hancock instead.

And 8 out of 10 downloads are from Intuit-Solar releases. How does Jon
 Layne do it? :)

Re: [313] detroittechno.com

2000-12-13 Thread Matthew L. Thompson
Whoever has bought these domain names is more than likely practicing what is
known as domain name squatting. Basically, they purchased the domain name
in hopes of reselling it later to someone else that wants it bad enough to
pay them a sizeable profit for it. Meanwhile, they'll continue to register
and re-register the name(s) for $35/each per year (or whatever the fee is
now) until they're successful with their easy get-rich scheme, or tired of
spending money on something they can't sell for what they want.

How about detroittechno.edu, detroittechno.gov or detroittechno.mil? Any of
those taken yet? ;-)

Does anyone know what is up with the people who bought detroittechno.com
detroittechno.net, and detroittechno.org? (all three are owned by the
same people i think). Like what do they plan on putting on there?

RE: [313] Russ Gabriel

2000-12-13 Thread Conway, Simon
IMO.
Including the Fusion 10, that's all I can think of by him - anyone know of
any others? I have heard that he is a bit bored of techno these days, and
listens to Herbie Hancock instead.

there's those 2 albums he had on input neuron as well. 'melody maker' on the
'future funk' lp is a great track.

cheers

This is purely speculation, but some time ago there was a green flash
animation that played on the website of a small circle getting larger and
when it filled the screen a bass thump sounded... I had written an email to
the detroittechno.com domain and for some reason I am thinking that Motor
owned it... I cant remember what gave that impression though -- I could be
totally wrong on that one.
