This oughta be interesting. Suppose you had a friend or relative whose only exposure to "techno" was top 40 radio (?), TV spots, and the ubiquitous flash intros on dot.com websites. Furthermore, this relative usually prefers music with vocals. What three or four 313-sensitive (loose definition) tracks might be good for an introduction to the current sound? I guess I'm looking for those tracks that might do well in mainstream clubs that still capture the real feel? All suggestions welcome via reply or reply all... -- There4IM

My suggestions for 3 tracks: Inner City: "Good Life" - either the original or the Carl Craig mix - the original is, well, the *original*, but the Carl Craig mix sounds more like Timbaland (with his whispered spoken overdubs about "the good life"). Recloose - "Can't Take It" - enough vocal to be palatable for those who like (need?) vocals, but still top-notch. Reese & Santonio - "The truth of self-evidence" - the vocal is of course from MLK Jr.'s speech, so it's spoken not sung, but still a vocal. I guess maybe a "best of Inner City" might not be a bad starter, as I look back on this list... Cheers, Bill -- http://www.chromedecay.org

hmm, i know it's a little more banging/percussive than most would like, but the two new Seismic releases are pretty good. 011 and 012. a few hard house tracks, a few good techno tracks. Re: [313] Best of the best...
off the top of my head: (1) not exactly "techno" per se ... but some of those Herbert/Siciliano collaborations could work. (2) a lot of the West London stuff ... Neon Phusion's "Future Ain't the Same As It Used 2 B" for starters. (3) vocal cuts on Hefner's "Residue" Album (4) concur on the Recloose front and Model 500 "Be Brave" -d This oughta be interesting. If "Leave Me Now" ever gets a proper release (although nt Sicialano), that's a great track on which tp build since it's essentially downtoempo, but at aroud 115 bpm. Old-school-wise, Chez 'n trent's "The Choice" springs to mind. If you're trying to make in-roads through vocal house, my recomendation is to smother the listener in Prescription instrumentals, and then drop some Prescription vocals. This is how I learned to appreciate voals, so perhaps the converse could work? Umm, not sure what you are asking here, but.. Shockwave records, damn good label :) ::Powermove EP 4 tracker released from memory in approx '91/92.. CAT: Shockwave 91005 ::Tracks 1:: Rave Africa (The chant) - Droning (but good :) Sounds like the same period as the Punisher EP (UR 17) but mellower and with weird catlike growling (aaah--chaach) 2:: Give me what I want - Good claps :) Nice tune, but there is a big piano-ish riff... 3:: Power Move - Driving track.. Also sounds like the same period as the Punisher and Fury EP (UR 18) 4:: Forever Free - Slowish acid/drum track.. Percussion sounds a bit like Belgian Resistance (WPA 003, also UR) but without the weird squelchy noises.. :) Some other records in this series that are pretty good... ::Shockwave 1006 Overmow EP - Produced by Overmow; Lots of samples, dancey club style beats (not at all like the Powermove EP, more early UK breatbeatish, but groovy anyway :) ::Shockwave 1007 Drexciya - Deep Sea Dweller; Well, it's Drexciya :) ::Shockwave 1008 Acid Rain - Acid Rain EP; The first in the Acid Rain series... Oh yeah, I forgot: There's a vocal mix of the song "Iceblink" off the new Ken Ishii album "Flatspin" that features Paris Grey on vocals. Pretty interesting ... it's credited as "featuring Inner City," but I don't think Kevin did any additional production. -d At 11:46 PM -0400 4/21/2001, Ian wrote: This oughta be interesting. The Underground Experience 12-Hour Marathon
As I drove to a gig last night I tuned in The Underground Experience, a local radio show hosted by the Diva KP, DJ Oji, DJ Pope and guests. It turns out that next Saturday is their 12-hour 11th anniversary show. You won't want to miss it if you like deep vocal house or deep house classic mixes like those you find in at http://deephousepage.com They currently have a big picture of the Diva KP and DJ Oji on the intro page. In fact, the 10th anniversary show is archived there. You might also remember DJ Pope's output on Cajual, or may be familiar with their releases on Bassment Boys and Poji Records. At any rate, they will have lots of guest spots this year as last, and it wouldn't surprise me to hear some of the local legends like Doug Smith of 95 North, Sam "The Man" Burns, maybe even Ultra Nate and I'm sure there will be others. These folks are the hidden jewels of the Baltimore/D.C. area. It runs from noon-midnight EDT. It can be heard around the world here: http://158.103.6.15/welcome/weaa.ram Tristan -- http://ampcast.com/phonopsia <- Music http://phonopsia.tripod.com <- Mixes, pics, thought, travelogue & info [EMAIL PROTECTED] <- email <- AOL Instant Messenger _ Do You Yahoo!? A while ago I came across a white label on KMS by the bottom feeders (now mind gap?) which had a tune that grabbed me with a sort of acidy build at the start which dropped into a wicked bassline... I know this is a case of should-have-grabbed-it-when-I-had-the-chance , but I was wondering if this was still available or if and when it will be properly released p.s.
