Re: [313] DEMF03 (not too long)
I did forget to mention Art Payne and Keith Martin, who I made a special effort to catch at their too-early time slot and was rewarded with a quite good and wide-ranging set. They even ended up with about 15 minutes in the Bass Zone (although nowhere near as fast nor of course as raunchy as DJ Funk later on :) Art Payne is one of those guys who's been around forever and I think it's easy to overlook the role that he plays in providing a kind of institutional memory as well as a lot of good music. I always liked his reports in DMA magazine in the early 1990s, even before I knew anything about Detroit, and then I met him at the DRMC in 1994. But this was the first time I'd actually heard him play. He and Keith did a real nice job. Fred - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] DEMF 2002 / Dave Clarke...
Hi all - I heard from a friend that Dave Clarke absolutely rocked it ... did anyone get a chance to see him I heard the same thing, and I hear he's just finished a Fisherspooner remix that is the proverbial sh*t. He played said remix at the end of his set. It was the sh*t. This year's DEMF was all about Detroit Moments for me. Clarke's set was one of them. I haven't seen a crowd (absolutely rammed) go so ballistic in *years*. He *completely* killed it. Perfect. (Well ... I wouldn't have minded some Electro; it was sorta a sparse weekend, Electro wise) And when, during Red 2, a thousand or so of 'em started the DE-troit! DE-troit! DE-troit! chant - totally spontaneously - I could've cried. THAT was truly a Detroit Moment[tm]. Every so often I say to myself, Self, you're approaching 44, you've got a drop-dead gorgeous ex-model girlfriend who doesn't like Techno, maybe it's time to quit dressing like a kid and grow up and wear Sensible Middle Aged Male All-Black Clothing and move on with your life. Then I see stuff like Clarkey's set and it reminds me of The Heyday[tm] of my raving years and I remember why I love the music and events like that, and I say Hah. Re: [313] list-geezers
I think this attrubuted to the over crowding some and deffently added to the noise up front which made it impossable to hear george clinton without a steady 4/4 in the backgrond. I had no problem in past years hearing the main stage on the upper right side, it was so crowded we could not get closer. I have to say all the added sound up front with the stage and the side tents made it hard to hear anything clearly on both the miller and main stage this year. I really wish they would STOP having sound in the side tents because it always sounds like a_distorted_mess_and then congests the_real_stages. scotto - Original Message - From: Reverb [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: 313 list 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Friday, May 31, 2002 10:35 AM Subject: Re: [313] list-geezers apparently there was construction over that way, so that had this DJ tower over to the east side of Hart Plaza, closest to the Ren Cen. -d On Fri, 31 May 2002 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I was just looking at these photos - good shots by the way, but I noticed that in the overhead views of Hart Plaza there isn't (wasn't) a Riverfront stage (by the pyramid steps (in picture 100-0013) where were all the stages positioned this year compared to last year (except of course the main and underground stages)?
