Automan 1 - Laid Back: White Horse (b/w ?)
Automan 5 - Charlie: Spacer Woman (b/w ?)

automan 2 - klein & mbo 'mbo theme' / nightlife unlimited 'peaches & prunes'
automan 3 - don't think there is a number 3

don't know what's on the others.

2002-11-26 Thread T.J.Johnson
Acid Sonic Research will strike again! Thanks to all
who showed up at our first event at the Detroit
Contemporary last Saturday. It was really cool meeting
a few list members and others. The night wasn't as
successful as we had hoped, but it was still a great
experience and a lot of fun meeting everyone. Much
Thanks goes out to Bill and Steve for coming out and
putting on an excellent audiovisual show...

Next weekend we are proud to present Sean Deason. He
will be performing on both turntables and live PA so it
should be a pretty cool experience. Also appearing
will be ASR locals Kataconda, Killswytch, and myself.
Any more details can be obtained here:

Thanks!

Yeah. Scattered Snares is really nice. The Nubian Mindz cut on there is
really wacky, but I think the Somatik track is the one for me. Not
specifically [313], but other stuffs I'm really feelin' right now are the
Yoruba Soul (Osunlade) remix of DJ Jazzy Jeff's 'Rock Wit U' (the original
is sick too) and Marvin is One by Focus (Phil Asher) on Versatile, both
sound typical for them, but are great examples of what they do. What is
really killing me though is Theo Parrish's 'Falling Up' on the Beatdown com,
and the Rick Wilhite track, but 'Falling Up' really does it for me. Maybe
the best Theo Parrish track yet???

Can anyone confirm or deny that the version of Die Domina on that bootleg is
actually pressed at the wrong speed??? or is that the way Ron Hardy used to
play it or what? Dr. Attaman had dropped that knowledge on me.. he's got an

Yes there is... can't recall all the tracks exactly but there's a killer
re-edit of Tom Tom Club's "Wordy Rappinghood" which to me is worth the
expensive price. I was told that the vol. 1 are actually reel-to-reel re-edits
that Ron Hardy made himself? (or were they just ones he played?)

In general I think the cuts Vol. 1 are harder to find than the ones on Vol.2
Like, isn't Kraftwerk's 'House Phone' on Vol. 2? Like that is a great cut, ok,
but you can find an original 12" of it anywhere for a fair price

(313) Musicbox Vol.2

2002-11-26 Thread Dinmica

Hi all,

The previous weekend I got a copy of the bootleg Musicbox Vol.2. It
contains original 12" and edit versions of classics like Los Ninos del
Parque, Sharivari, Die Domina, Tour de France, etc...

I am supposing there is a Vol.1. Can anyone confirm or deny?
If you can confirm, what is the track listing?

Thanks for your help,

Hupert

yes! there is one Domu mix that is just beats that is cool too, it's actually
my favorite mix... i think it's called Domu's NY beats or something like that..
(??) awesome mix tool and chunky cut up production.

Also in a similar vein another to check out is new release on a label called
AMALGAMA by Titonton... nice sounds.. includes a Seiji remix (as Opaque).
Anyone know who is behind this label BTW?

Finally, also doing it for me is Genre (AKA - nwachukwu) 2-tracker on
Surplus... groovy and funky.

> There is so much good music coming out right now it's disgusting.

Seems like it... distributors like Goya and the Dutch lables now are blowing
the top off of this broken-techno crossover, there's nice detroit sounds too...
Titonton, and I'd like to see Double Helix and Recloose get some more mixes and
releases out there. And Hello, Scattered Snares comp on Twisted Funk??? That
comp is just SICK!

peace,

Thanks for the trip home. I needed it.

Thanks everyone for helping with the Soul in Motion question. Just picked it
up along with a few other goodies at Rush Hour. That new Convextion on
Downlow sounds really amazing! I haven't been this excited about a techno
record in ages.

I heard Mark Force playing the new Domu remixes of Red Nose District Sunday
@ Co-op (what I heard of Seiji's set was really nice, BTW). Anyway, the Red
Nose remix sounded amazing loud. Per Marsel's recommendation the Moxie disco
re-edits also sounded really nice. The new Klash Productions on Emoticon
sounds really tight too (if you've had any trouble finding Emoticon stuff
head to Rush Hour, they have tons).

There is so much good music coming out right now it's disgusting.

also, the only other time I'd seen that Art Forrest track "The Flow"

a slightly different version of "The Flow 96" titled "Flow With Me" was on

don't like his terms, or his willingness to invent dozens of terms that

I think Kodwo's invention of his 'own' language was half the reason for the

difficult read, but I think he deserves admiration for 'thinking outside the

I do think he does tend to embrace some music that isn't really as deserving

Soul in Motion was an Italian released compilation released through Irma Group.
I dont know how readily available it is across Europe, but it was released on

As for the Splinterfaction track, its still available on vinyl if you can track
it down, but Undercity distribution will be making the whole Digital Soul back
catalogue available next month, so you should be able to pick any of them up
across Europe fairly easily then. Check www.courthouse.nl for more info.

Also 3 remixes of it will be released in the new year from Fabrice Lig, Dan
Curtin and $tinkworx. In fact while I'm on the topic I may as well go all
shamelessly self promotional and drop all the upcoming 12s.

DS05 Brien Prince (313s own): Strokes of Defience EP
DS06 Splinterfaction: Ultraism remixes featuring Dan Curtin, Fabrice Lig and
$tinkworx
DS07 $tinkworx: Aadena EP featuring The Monolith
DS08 John Harvey (Dimension 5): Formation One EP
DS09 Derek Carr: untitled EP featuring Shake

Its taken a while to get to the position where I can put these new releases
out, but they should all start coming early into the new year.

cheers

You should check the whole catalogue of Digital Soul. Not on bad release on the
label. Splinterfaction has two EPs on Digital Soul that are just brilliant. He
also recorded as Fat Filters

RE: (313) books on techno

2002-11-26 Thread Data General

There's a book, I think I might have mentioned it a long time ago, called

What Kind of House Party is This? Berkshire, England: Mind In You
Publishing, from 1995.

published by a British fellow named Jonathan Fleming who had little
knowledge of electronic dance music in the states, but an interest
nonetheless. and he travelled to chicago and detroit and new york doing
interviews with a huge variety of house/techno/garage musicians including
all the usual pioneering suspects.

the interviews are very candid and unusual, and include a number of what I
think would be considered shocking (to 313 and others) statements. I'm a
bit suspicious of the factuality of it, being that its self-published and
I've never heard anything else about the author, but it seems for the most
part pretty legitimate. I have no idea unfortunately of how to get a hold
of it other than borrowing.

It's not a great narrative of techno's history, but it's some good and
definitely unique insight.

(313) Splinterfaction, Art Forrest, etc.

2002-11-26 Thread Matthew MacQueen
Couple of questions after finally giving that _Soul In Motion_ compilation on
IRMA the listening attention it deserves... with Volcov making the selections
you know it's going to be choice.

wow that Splinterfaction "Ultraism" track is awesome... really has some
momentum, you don't want it to end. How's the rest of the release from whence
it came? (on Digital Soul ??)

also, the only other time I'd seen that Art Forrest track "The Flow" released
was on the Deepest Shade of Techno comp on CD. Was it originally on a 12"
before that? It's so deep, on that Octave One "I Believe" kind of level...

also this comp. is out on CD too, so any of you non-vinyl buyers want to get a
comp that's got some timeless Detroit-y cuts on it from past and present, do
give this Italian export a listen... price is quite fair too.

peace,
Matt MacQueen
