The broken beatness (if that's a real word) of the Re Spoken ep is probably due to the fact that Aardvarck's tracks on that Ep were remixed by Domu and Nubian Mindz. Also Aardvarck's Cult Copy on Rush Hour last year was probably one of my favourite purchases for the year. Top quality. Cult Copy also appeared on Carl Craig's The Workout double mix CD pack.

Aardvarck is Mike Krivits. Had some well nice releases on Delsin. Kinda chilled broken beat but still funky. I have the Nozum and Re Spoken ep's which I like a lot. Missed out on his album Find The Cow. : ( Check out the Aardvarck's Cult Copy 12 on Rush Hour if you can find it... it's a little more 4/4 than he usually does and superb, among his career best efforts so far IMHO. Listen to Find The Cow on Delsin before you buy it. I like it but opinions vary, it's diverse too which I personally like. The track Steck is a haunting kind of deep broken beat affair and there are more like that on the album. It's hard to go wrong with most Delsin releases... like the Attica Blues remix of Nozum is tight. Also I really like Aardvarck Donkeyboy release on Music for Speakers. A weird vocal track called man to come that's a deep funky dark groover, mixes well with Theo/KDJ and deep detroit house oddly enough. Then there's collaboration track on there with Sonar Lodge that is awesome too. I like the ReSpoken thing with Nubian Mindz remix... I think that's on Rush Hour. Those Dutch labels are always sleeping around with labels and tracks though ;) I like that Aardvarck can do abstract/dowtempo and also house and broken-up kind of beats and techno flavors. Definitely an innovator and in a super-crowded field of electronic producers he surely stands out. I mean Domu is remixing him... that says a lot right there. He is pretty prolific... I haven't heard the new one album on Delsin yet though -- how does it compare? peace, Matt MacQueen

I did that and it collapsed with the weight. ;) I think it was 'cause I put magazines I've written for on top of them. Looks nic3e tho holds about 1500 records Hi, maybe a stupid question, but where do you store all of those records? Just in your livingroom in a cabinet or just stacked away in some corner, or in crates? Any ideas, photo's of there records, etc? I'm moving this month to my new house and want to get rid of all those crates but I find it hard to find a nice cabinet or something for a decent price, I'd better buy more records for that money then :-) I own about 1400 records but there surely are people with a lot more records Thanks, Remco

Re: (313) Aardvarck
The new Aardvarck ep on Delsin is called Gensin. I have only heard it couple of times but I have to admit it that even though some broken techno stuff bothers me in the long run, i find that the tracks on Gensin are rather quite pleasant. Raw broken beats and breaks are subtly complemented by long synth sweeps. It differs from the other release i own, Cult Copy which is more 4/4 and dancefloor oriented, but i would reccommend the Gensin ep to anyone curious of the Aardvarck sound. Btw, an Aardvark is an African mammal, about the size of a pig, that feeds on insects and small vertebrates and lives in huge burrows under the ground. It has big donkey like ears and a long snout with a pig nose at the end. It's long sharp claws make it a very threatening animal even to large predators. Theres was a cool comic called Cerebus on a humanoid aardvarck with special powers (i think). - Original Message - From: Anya Stang [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2003 12:18 AM Subject: Re: (313) Aardvarck Aardvarck is Mike Krivits. I've seen similar boxes to those MDF ones on the link in some record stores - they were very shabby in construction and were quite expensive - I couldn't see why people would buy them... If you want something as basic as that get some MDF and borrow a drill and make them yourself for a few quid each... I think it was only a while back this discussion came up but anyway... At home I store about 1000 records in Ikea's Expedit bookcase http://www.ikea.co.uk/product_presentation/show.asp?productnumber=9711type=IIIid=3039,3078 - they only show the 4x4 one on the website but there is 5x5 one too (records take up just over half of the unit). Its very strong and sturdy and I am very happy with it. I reckon you can store 50-100 records comfortably in each section meaning you can in theory get 2500 records in the 5x5 unit, but remember that is going to be a huge weight so think about it if you are not on solid concrete! The rest of my records (about 10,000+) I store in a rented storage unit which (1) I feel is more secure than keeping everything at home (2) having avoided having to move with all these records once has provided itself very useful (3) I don't reckon the weight of all these records upstairs is good for the house! In the unit I use cheap shelving units from DIY stores (Homebase and Wickes) which were about gbp20 each and store round about 1000 records each. Unsorted stuff I put temporarily in plastic crates which I got at gbp1 each on Milton Keynes market about 4-5 years ago and are still going strong! David

I just bought some of these at Home Depot for $12.00 each. http://www.millspride.com/mills/ourproducts/stor_items_c6.htm The shelves are fully adjustable and are stackable. They are simple to put together, they look cool, have a lifetime warranty (if that matters), and in my opinion are a great deal for the money. The records stick out a little bit but I find it easier to flip through them. Chris technoiraudio.com

(313) dubplates and pressing reccomendations?
I apologise for the relatively off-topicness of this post, but you are the most knowlegeable people I know for all topics related to electronic music. So, I've decided to take the big step and setup a record label with a buddy. We are undertaking this adventure not to make money (obviously) but to celebrate our love of and dedication to electronic music. Many people here in Rome have asked if we are nuts and one of the most constant remarks was you're brave :-) As of now, we are in the process of defining the right strategies for marketing and distribution, but especially we are looking for good quality and affordable places to get dublates and the pressing done. As there are many label owners on this list, I wanted to ask you people what you reccommend for this type of things - places, experiences, tips...that sort of thing. Please reply off list please fab.

Yes I agree.. I have the 5x5 one and it's working well so far for storage. As for having 'readily available' records upright and fast to flip through for DJing at home, I'm working on building a custom piece based on some of the best bins I've seen in record stores, etc. The kind that split the record about halfway and are slightly angled in the front and back for easy flipping. The shelves like this Ikea are great for storage but not so great for easy/fast access if you're trying to get your mix on... and I'm trying to reduce the # of crates lying around as possible, but there will always be some, ha ha peace, Matt MacQueen
