The new Matthew Dear (jabberjaw) is two tracks after that Shake song..I like
it. All I've heard of Mr. Dear's is the two False singles on Plus 8 and it's
in the same vein which is cool. nothing really new with this jabberjaw
release but it's still good and for those into minimal stuff that doesn't
bore you to tears then grab this next week when it hits shelves

(313) Ghostly International Idol Tryouts V 1

2003-03-31 Thread Kent williams
Got the Idol Tryouts Volume 1 to review, and it really raises the question:
Tadd Mullinix: Is there nothing he can't do?

Also have been loving the Dykehouse track that sounds like Husker Du backing
up Brian Eno.

Every frickin track on this comp has something that is missing from even some
music I really like: pure stupid almost-pop grooviness. It's like a big
box of candy bars. Dangerously close to being commercial, not because of
pandering impulses, but because it's inviting, involving, even accessible
music.

Big up the GI crew. This CD should turn heads!

UR has a militia theme and a lot of the old UR records have a darker
skizzo/
acid type sound
so it's was only natural you have records that are based on Nazi warfare
like Seawolf, Belgium Resistance, and Code breaker.

You mean (I hope) some UR records/imagery/themes, echo the idea of the
various *resistance* efforts to WWII Nazism, rather than being baldly 'based
on Nazi warfare' - which is disturbing, and possibly would make such
material illegal in many places in the world.

Here's how I think the story unfolded:

There was a special Codebreaker section on the Submerge website that at
first appeared to be nothing but a blank page, but it had a secret link
hidden behind a single dot on the page. The morse code in the track said
click on the dot, which revealed a page written by the Unknown Writer
about codebreaking and resistance.

A listmember decrypted the code and forwarded it to 313 and everybody
accessed the site. A day later, a message from Submerge appeared on the
site and on 313, saying something along the lines of 'the code had been
broken and the mission compromised' and that the site had been taken down
(although another listmember had saved the page and forwarded it to 313

(313) Track ID

2003-03-31 Thread Jernej Marusic
I've been listening to Jeff Mills live @ Virgin Megastore, Paris, and he
plays this track, or maybe its just acapela over another track. Anyway I
would like to know what's the track that contains this vocals:

Question of the day,
Who stole the soul.

Who turned this special delivery
into a box of ? chocolates

Sometimes I wish I was still green.

Oh I sound like my mama

Boy put that teddy...?...
and take of that noise you're listening to.

And me and Chuck still want to know
who took the sunshine
and turned it into microwaveable popcorn for profit.

We need more Erica Badus and DeAngelos
and less children with no destiniy

And I am by no means anti pop music
simply because pop is not a musical form

(313) new Amp Fiddler C.Craig...

2003-03-31 Thread alex . bond
Just heard the new Amp Fiddler record.

Very nice. 5 tracks inc. eye 2 eye (J.A.N mix) on Genuine again.
Best track is A1 though, really good - sounds like a MM production, very
lo-fi, shuffling beats etc. Reminds me of another of his tracks - can't
think what though at the minute.

Also, picked up a Carl Craig mix of Francois De Roubaix. Club orientated,
more in a paperclip people vein, looped horn sample, dancefloor beats etc.
Breaks down in to a breakbeat track half way through. Should sound very
nice on a big system..
(on a french label - Sido music 10)
