(313) Stacey Pullen - Melbourne

Stacey Pullen press release

What has now become a veritable institution, New Used have succeeded in
producing one blistering event after another, delivering the cream of the
world's DJ's across a plethora of Melbourne's most unique venues. Following
the sell out success of DJ Sneak, Motor City's Stacey Pullen returns to take
the New Used stage for a massive six hour set.

Stacey Pullen is an innovator, an influencer, an energising DJ often rating
in the Top 5 of people's named favourites in the world. His technical skill,
his way with the music, his Motown upbringing, his drumming history could
all be attributed to the growing legend however the truth of the matter is
that he is a people's dj - playing music that refuses to be bound by any
journalistic label. Notorious for his exhilarating, marathon six hour sets -
Stacey communicates at a higher level, building the anticipation as he
prepares the crowd for an onslaught of cross genre mayhem, playing
everything from house, techno, drum n bass to ol' school funk, jazz and
Latin groove. You will gravitate towards the spirit of his music as it wafts
through your system in a mesmerising sound epic - leaving you wishing the
sun hadn't come up so soon..

The fertile sound bed of Detroit nurtured his style, the stages of the world
from North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and the Caribbean
have provided an eclectic audience, his own Blag Flag label project
combining art and music, all have influenced his aspirations to reject the
impulse to conform, to thrive under innovation and promote the evolution of
the music genre.

There are many reasons for Stacey Pullen's avid fan base in Australia, his
sets are something of club history, his reputation second to none, either
way he warrants the accolades and attention that has been bestowed on him in
this country and we wait with bated breath for his return.

Stacey will be supported by a special performance of The Little Beasties
Set by Angela Maison and Ant J Steep, well known in Melbourne circles as
the key people behind Honky Tonks fresh musical approach. They will perform
their first Little Beasties decks and mischief performance at Hi Fi with
Angela and Ant on multiple decks, beastie effects, cdj's and perhaps a live
Maison vocal! Not to mention additional local support from Christian Vance,
Grant Smillie, John Course, Andy Murphy and Chris Buchanan.

Historically a grand ballroom and later a news reel cinema, The Hi-Fi Bar
Ballroom is now one of Melbourne's premiere event venues. New Used will be
held here for the first time, aptly chosen to suit Stacey's unique,
underground style. The back lane entrance, off Little Collins St, down the
fashionable Howey Place provides the perfect setting for a crazy night of
Motor City style mayhem.

I don't , but there was a bootleg double pack a little while ago with a
similar title, maybe a follow up to that?

The stuff on it wasn't all that rare, but obviously was worth
bootlegging.

Hmm, yeah true, but it's still a real scum move, isn't it? I wonder if the

Well, I agree. For the record, I'm anti-bootlegging anything.
But, I don't know this comp, so I ain't accusing it of being a bootleg just
yet!
I was just saying that there was one around about 6 months ago with a
similar title that was deffo a bootleg.

if it is indeed a bootleg (it might not be) then yeah we're back the
same discussion again i guess.

if you didn't have the tunes on the comp (and it was a bootleg) would you
buy it?

as much as i shouldn't (i can see the reasons why not) i probably would
pick it up.

even if i had the tracks on original 12s it saves wear and tear on them.

I can't listen to rm at work :(, but there is a record out last Christmas
with 2 nice remixes of the Amelie theme. It first came out as a promo with
no artist name, but I think it was released again as being by Luciano -
Amelie On Ice.

It's got a weird b-side that I didn't think much of, but the 2 amelie
remixes are spot on!

I love it when we can discuss music on this
list...here's some comments to your nice post Tristan:

Subject: Tread 3
Anyone else feeling this? Excellent slow, moody
Detroit house stuffs.
Don't
trip on the 2x pack price. You'll quickly grow to
love it. Anyone have
opinions on the first two?

reviewed this on 313 when it first came out. It's by
Kaito of Kompakt...Hiroshi Watanabe of Japan. The
first 2 were CD releases unless I am wrong. It came
out on the Norm label manufactured through Kompakt I
think.

OK, so I've been trying unsuccessfully to post all
last week, until I
just
realized I been sending from the wrong address. Doh.
Anywhoo... just
bought
a bunch of records. Only one of them was techno
(sorta):

Pal Joey : Thong Test - 12 (samples the Thong Song -
don't dismiss it,
you've gotta hear it. B side is even better. Possibly
the best song in
this
bunch)

It's actually the other way around. I think they
sampled Pal Joey.

Three Chairs : All Over - 12 (this one's a bit of a
grungy recording,
no??? - anyone else think it samples Patternis by
Circulation?)

one of my favorite records i picked up in
Detroit...but I do believe they sampled Joshua's
balance record Tristan, unless they know how to sound
design on a Korg M1 ;)

Artist = Silent Partners ( Joshua Mark E Quark )
Title = Down By Dub ( inc Joshua Remix )
Label = Hi Phen
Format = 12inch

just got this from Hi-phen label head Geoffroy. It's
nice, but kinda dissapointing to hear such blatant
sampling especially of such classic records. The
Joshua dub is dope as hell though! josh has still got
it going on when it comes to deep gorgeous house.

I use a 60's electric bar heater with a sort of 'steel-lite' finish and nice
big flat top. ( 2 bar heater). The top gets quite hot, but not too hot to
sit on. I put the record on the top of the heater, turn it on , watch very
carefully, at a certain point it slumps flat then turn the heater off.
Used this after a few nasty oven experiments.

RE: (313) de-warping tips?

I recommend a web-order to wherever you ordered that record from, a credit
card, and six-to-eight weeks. I know: not the answer you wanted to hear--
but it *is* the option that produces best results. If you make it a point to
have them stamp the order 'Do Not Bend' and insure the item, then next time
the USPS will have to foot the bill for a replacement.

Other methods of flattening out vinyl usually only result in headache and
anger.

Thank god the mail lady didn't do that to my Peacefrog Private Pressing that
I just found out showed up at the record store for me today! I would have
killed the lady. When all the finances and shipping and bank transfers
added up, that thing cost me somewhere around $25. Oh well...Hopefully it
will be a good tune and worth the wait. I am really digging the Silence in
the Secret Garden track.

If you have the patience and a heavy book try putting it in the direct
sunlight and putting a really heavy book on top of it to flatten it out. I
have gotten that one to work with minorly warped reocrds...as for severely
warped ones, well I hope you got shipping insurance.

Peace

Jeff
