(313) JOHN ARNOLD AYRO IN CHICAGO

2003-11-05 Thread john arnold

Hello Chicago peeps,
Come check the show and don't forget to say hello.
-john

SONOTHEQUE, UBIQUITY OMOAMUSIC PRESENT

JOHN ARNOLD vs. AYRO

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 7

WORLD EXCLUSIVE FIRST FREESTYLE FACE OFF!!

HYBRID LIVE DJ SET FROM DETROIT NEW SCHOOLERS

WITH RESIDENT DJ HIDE SUKENARI

Sonotheque, Ubiquity Omoamusic are proud to celebrate the release of John
Arnold's Neighborhood Science (Ubiquity) Ayro's ElectronicLoveFunk
(Omoamusic) with a world exclusive first freestyle face-off featuring
hybrid live and dj set. Being based in Detroit, the home of the Motown
sound, has shaped and further expanded their own musical creativity by
giving a soulful presence to their personal forays into Electronica.

John Arnold, while being trained in classical guitar, has been at the
forefront of the burgeoning Detroit electronic scene. Invited by Carl Craig
to perform in his first-ever live electronic gig at the inaugural Detroit
Electronic Music Festival (DEMF) ,John Arnold went on to release 2 EPs for
Transmat Records. While his work on John Beltran's Aztec Girl was licensed
by British drum 'n' base innovator LTJ Buken for Good Looking's Earth 4
compilation . John also finds the time to play in the world music based
five-piece live grouping ,Blackman Arnold. His current record
Neighborhood Science has just been released on the Ubiquity label and
includes appearances by keyboardist/vocalist Amp Fiddler (P-Funk All-Stars),
vocalist and multi-talented musician Ayro and producer/vocalist Malik Alstin
(Roy Davis Jr.).

Ayro, a.k.a. Jeremy Ellis, also a child of the Motor City and lead a
breakthrough performance at the 2001 DEMF. His first single Let This,
quickly became a true underground hit and graced the charts of such dj
luminaries as Gilles Peterson, Patrick Forge, Francois K and Dego of 4 Hero.
After years of working with Detroit legends Jazzhead , Ayro went on to
collaborate with Aril Brikha and the Time/Space band on Transmat. Ayro has
released music with Carl Craig of the Detroit Experiment and Recloose while
also doing remixes for Jazzanova, Fertile Ground, John Beltran and of course
John Arnold.

Their musical philosophy can be summed up in an interview given by John
Arnold recently.

My whole vision with the group was to really try and emulate what DJs were
doing, but do it live. We'd bring in a lot of great DJs in town who'd play
with us before - Alton Miller came, DJ Bone. All the Detroit guys would come
through and play and it'd be a great experience, 'cause we'd have this jazz
band and then we'd have the DJs as well, so it was a really well-rounded
educational thing about music, but people dug it 'cause it was dance music
as well.

This hybrid set will include John Arnold and Ayro looping and sampling live
on computer and electronics.
John will also be dj'ing. They will be joined by local resident groove
merchant Hide Sukenari.

Doors open up at 8pm - 2am. For further information contact Joe Bryl at
312-226-7600 or by e-mail at [EMAIL PROTECTED] 1444 w. chicago.

2003-11-05 Thread Phonopsia
God, I really hate to further this thread but I suppose it serves the
purpose of getting statesiders to [313] gigs, so... if using travelocity to
London, you absolutely have to check Air India (London is a major stop-over
on the way to India from the US, and travelocity seems to house their best
deals). They have sorted me so well, travelling from London to Chicago, and
starting from Chicago to London. Their prices are great and the food is far
superior to most airlines (esp. if vegetarian). They will always be my first
stop from now on. Don't know how well they service the rest of the states,
but I know for sure they do NYC. Air India yo. Give it a shot.
