www.alanoldham.com Well look at that! That's a mighty fine website there! no s**t!! that looks very very cool! I highly encourage interested peole to check out the archives of his Fast Forward radio show from the WDET days.. definitely a landmark radio show of Detroit electronic music heritage. Alan was playing exclusives and test pressings at the the time and playing some amazing tracks as they were just breaking, Baby Ford, Transmat stuff, etc. A really nice time capsule not to mention an example of a techno DJ pumping industrial influences such as Final Cut, etc. To hear Alan announcing on the air Carl Craig's first live performance (as BFC) show at the Majestic Theater w/ guest DJ Blackout (Damon Booker, right?)... awesome. Some of the industrial tracks have really dated IMHO (Thrill Kill Kult, yikes...) but others like Suburban Knight The Worlds still stand as masterpieces, and his commentary and segue-ways are always a crack-up. peace, Matt MacQueen

tried to mail this from a non-listed address, seems like it's working! This is a bit off-topic but among the last lot I got was the whole of the Amen Andrews series on Rephlex, these tunes are MURDERERS!!! Get a listen at rephlex.com, you won't be disappointed. On the techno(?) front, I managed to get two cheap copies of that Francois De Roubaix 10 (the Vibert mix is cute), and the new Mills (Divine EP) and Twilight Scenario, both totally funked out blinders. Also, picked up a load of Tangerine Dream and a really cool LP by a guy called Robert Schroeder, called 'Floating Music', which can be played at 33 or 45! From 1980, some really nice sounds on that. Oh, got Tres Demented as well, I seem to remember it getting a knocking on the list, but I think it's wicked, one more in the long line of druggy, tribal-y club records with shouting on, going back to the disco days...can't remember which ones though. F*ck. Re: (313) Re: new records
there is so much i wish i could pick up right now but i have to save my moneys for gifts for stupid other people. i did get advance copies of iken - image of a drawn sword (realsoon #2) dope dope dope! 10 which comes in a lovely green 78 sleeve. a-side is super warm, funky, deep, just a little abstract house...totally up there with kdj's latest stuff, leaning towards techno in all the right ways..b-side has a very cool dubby cut, leaning towards dancehall, with great analog bits floating around..nce!! last one on b-side is a beatless number built around a nice jazz bass sample, some creaky ship sounds, lovely pads and some more nice little sounds floating around...excelllent record. lovely label too with green splotches on it, very classy.. ultramarine - carl craig remixes (realsoon #3) yeahhhuhhh! the hooter remix hasnt aged a bit! great beat programming, nice horn sample, classic cc sounds, ohh those rolling beats...comes off like some subtly tropical house azz-shaker, and a little towards paperclip people stuff maybe even..also a nice beatless cc remix of hooter is included as well, lovely. b-side has cc remix of source, which does sound old, but still great, classic detroit house sound, dope chezntrent style bassline, bangin beats and simple chords, some lovely pads and strings...very well arranged, keeps introducing new bits, doesnt get repetitive. b2 is another very short beatless remix, well more of a filtered outro of hooter... 2 essential records..! also labrat xl - mice or cyborg (clone) ohhh yeah this is very good, i think it edges out the abstract thought as my favorite out of the 7 storms. more abstract and thoughtful than the old drexciya jams still, but just great sounds and beats, real songs. super sad, lovely soaring whale calls and skittery beats and little chord jabs in labrat1, dope house speed overdriven 808 beats in labrat2 with a classic! grungey drexciyan bass and spooky sounds from within the bubblecruiser and some pitched around vox if you're good to go let your body show...labrat3 goes more smooth and funky, towards older drexciya, verrry nice...labrat4 is super slow plodding electro with spacey meandering chords and thick gurgling bass..labrat5 heading towards industrial techno, loads more great sounds..labrat6 brings out the sk beats and some deeep sad underwater pads! a really really really great album and close to the 7 storms and james stinson's legacy... looking forward to hearing those new submerge ones, they all sounded very good..and i think i will have a lot of fun with doubles of dope computer :) jt _ Gift-shop online from the comfort of home at MSN Shopping! Here's a bit more info http://www.plantmusic.com/bio.html ?The Sound Of Young New York? is more than just a DJ mix CD. It represents a time and place in New York?s vibrant music scene. Compiled and mixed by Dominique Keegan, owner of Plant Music and Plant Bar, ?The Sound Of Young New York? attempts to compile music from a variety of New York producers and artists that have surfaced over the past year. The ever so publicized dfa production duo of James Murphy Tim Goldsworthy can be found in their remixes of Metro Area?s ?Orange Alert? and Radio 4?s ?Dance To The Underground?. The dfa label favorites The Rapture are featured on a rework of rinôçérôse 'Music Kills Me' which features Luke Jenner?s amazing vocals and input from all the band members, Gabe?s sax solo being a key feature. Also present are tracks from John Selway?s electro imprint, Memory Boy (Kap 10 Kurt 'Die Sleeping') and Holmar Filipson Jef K?s label Crack n? Speed with Mr. Negative ?Star Spangled Banner??. And the music sucks! Other track?s include Dominique partner DJ Wool?s remix of French identical twins Les Clones and also a cut from Dominique Wool?s new vocal project, The Glass. New York tech house heroine Ilana?s ?5.05? is also featured as well as a rework of the Mudd Club classic ?If I Gave You A Party'. In the height of New York Super club?s success French crew Respect Is Burning were throwing monthly?s at Twilo. One event featured unknown French identical twins Les Clones whose live funky house set impressed many New Yorkers in attendance. There ability to party was also impressive and after a wonderful morning at long time music and art patron Kevin Krich?s (to whose memory this album is dedicated) wonderful Broadway apartment the duo really messed with some already messy heads. Two yeard later The Clones, now signed to Sony Music, asked Dominique to remix their upcoming dancefloor cut ?Shut Up Dance. I've got to say, my favourite bit of his set was when he played that Robert Hood (I think it was Hood anyway...) track on 45rpm. Maybe it's a sign of how drunk I was, but I actually tried to dance to that! We'll definitely have to stick the barman on the bill for the next one... ;) Another thing, I tried to write down the 313 subscription instructions for a bloke who came up to me at the end of the night and asked about what the 313 list was and how he could get on it. I'm wondering if he made it or not? I can't necessarily guarantee that the stuff I wrote down was actually legible... Brendan
