i'm way jealous--the only musical entertainment i have to look forward over

listening to it on the minidisc.

2003-12-18 Thread chenkc
HI all,

Seeing Tom's list. I can see how much i have missed out
this year. Got to start stocking up some of the tunes.

Anyone could review the releases on Rub a Dub's label called Dalraida or
something like that?

May i know which shop still stock up releases by Bitstream, Counterattack and
Surface Effect? I have been looking for the Counterattack releases for a long
long time now.

May i know which shop stocks up Frictional 001? How much is that going for?

Well, it's that time of year again - inspired by Tristan getting the ball
rolling, here's some of the records that have stood out for me this year.
It's been a particularly good year for techno I think - even though all the
little labels are selling very low numbers, the quality is better than ever.
Loads of new talent coming through, lots of old favourites keeping the
quality high, and lots of styles and sounds merging.

 30 singles:
Dan Curtin - Autonomic Groove (Down Low)
Aroy Dee - The Planets (NWAQ)
Claro Intelecto - Peace Of Mind (Ai Records)
Cesario Evora - Angola [Carl Craig mix] (BMG)
 Pastamusik - Charmin (Pastamusik)
Rick Wilhite - Ruby Nights [Gilb-R mix] (Third Ear)
Strand - Pigeon Toed Orange Peel (Tactile)
Various - Better By Design/Electron Music (Iridite)
 Needs - Reminiscence (Clairaudience)
Pusch '79 - Glowing Cat (Clone)
 Pitman/Wilhite/Dixon/Parrish - All Over (3 Chairs)
Theo Parrish - Natural Aspirations (Sound Signature)
 Lusine - Push EP (Ghostly)
Titonton Duvante - Raunchy EP (Project)
Andres - Last Call For Alcohol (Mahogani)
 V-Phorms - Fragments (Native)
CiM - Noki Bay (Ann Aimee)
Rene Lowe Paul St Hilaire - Faith (False Tuned)
Nutmeg w/ Face - State of Mind (Neroli)
Kaidi Tatham Dego - Puzzled (2000 Black)
The Age Of Selfishness - Wakako'ka [dub] (Visions Inc)
Pepe Bradock w/ Michelle Weeks - Distorted Echoes (Kif)
Recloose - Us vs Us (Rush Hour)
 Mat Johnson - Typerope (Itiswhatitis)
 Larry Heard - Loosefingers (Alleviated)
Iken - Image Of A Drawn Sword (Real Soon)
Nu Era - We Think Electronic (Twisted Funk)
Kettel - Cuddle And Then Leave (DUB)
Missy Elliott - Pass That Dutch (Elektra)
I:Cube Rza - Can You Deal With That? (Versatile)

 10 albums:
Two Banks Of Four - Three Street Worlds (Red Egyptian Jazz)
Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher (Warp)
Pavel Kostiuk - The Musicals (2000 Black)
 Yotoko - Wet Ink (Delsin)
 Pole - Pole (Mute)
Matthew Herbert Big Band - Goodbye Swingtime (Accidental)
As One - So Far (So Good) (Ubiquity)
Alex Cortex - Inwards (Ann Aimee)
Rhythm Sound - The Artists/The Versions (Burial Mix)
John Tejada - The Toiling Of Idle Hands (Immigrant)

And here's my tips for 2004, as posted on littledetroit.net today - all in
lowercase for some reason - guess I was in a lowercase mood :)

newworldaquarium - was lucky enough to hear some of the tracks for his
forthcoming peacefrog lp at the weekend and they were absolutely
jaw-droppingly deep. plus 154's strike should at last see the light of
 day...

aroy dee/mos - again, got a sneak peek at his new stuff at the weekend and
can't wait to get it on vinyl...

real soon records - the further details and iken eps are superb, and with
carl craig mixes of ultramarine to follow there's hopefully plenty more in
 this vein...

rei loci jason brunton - looking forward to loads of new stuff from the
 iridite boys...

elijah - watch out for my boy laurence hughes! a real talent, and he's just
 warming up...

arne weinberg - going from strength to strength...

digital soul - returning at last with nuff proper techno. forthcoming d5 ep
 is amazing...

down low - responsible for the techno record of the year for me in the shape
of dan curtin's distort.artchive.desire, plus upcoming stuff from connection
 machine and convextion - mmm...

ampoule crew - can't wait for the lucky easy album on ann aimee...

mat jonson/itiswhatitis - some of the best 12s of the last couple of years,
 really want to hear more...

 luciano - as above...

vince watson - on top form right now, and look out for some beautiful stuff
on emoticon and headspace very soon...

oliver hacke - really feeling his work on trapez and traum, glitched-up
stuff with the all-important (and all-too-rare) soulful elements present and
 correct...

 Cheers,

 Tom

It's a retrospective collection of As One stuff from the past twelve years,
selected by the man himself, plus a couple of new tracks - if you're a Kirk

highlights together in one place, in nice packaging. A beautiful listening

Hi Collin! Hope you're well :)

You can get a couple of Bitstream (they've done stuff for Signal, Pylon,
City Centre Offices and Modern Love) and Surface Effect things from
http://www.boomkat.com/ and http://www.smallfish.co.uk

And I'm sure Rubadub will have a few things - their website is still down
but you could contact Jason Brunton who now works at the shop:

As for the Counterattack stuff - good luck! They're very hard to find now,
but they do still turn up from time to time...

(313) top 10 - ish

2003-12-18 Thread alex . bond
I'm hopeless at doing top 10's.

so I thought I'd do a top ten these guys made some records that I really
enjoyed in 2003

so it's a cheesy thank you for the music to these guys.

no particular order... and also they're all techno peeps, cos we're on a
techno list.
sorry if it's a bit boring.

MOS/Aroy Dee (btw, I saw the name Aroy Dee on a thai cafe in amsterdam -
does it have a thai meaning?)
Strand
Stinkworx
Rhythm Sound
Carl Craig
Iridite Productions
Dynarec (ok, so he only made one record, but boy was it hot)
James Stinson (R.I.P underwater brother)
Kenny Dixon Jnr
2000Black

There is probably some glaring admissions here as I just thought it up, so
hmm, oh well.

oh yeah, and I just noticed that half of these things are off delsin, so
they win the special trophy.

I'm pretty sure those Club Classics 12s were put out by ZYX.
There is also the Music of John Carpenter on ZYX which has a version, may be
the same as the Club Classics one. There are also a few covers floating around-
I-F did one on [EMAIL PROTECTED] Consumer. Apparently Afrika Bambaataa did a
cover too (see here http://www.discogs.com/release/51539 ).

How are Dan Curtin's Stictly Rhythm releases? Worth £8.50?

Yeah, I'd say they're some of my favourite stuff of his from that period.
The second one especially is excellent...

Cheers,

Tom

(313) looking remixers for a deep techno track

2003-12-18 Thread Sogax

I'm looking remixers for a new deep techno called Dictator.
It has a strong drive with some Moby vibe and is somewhat minimal
in construction, yet with variation throughout the track.

http://www.deliciound.net/content/mp3s/Deliciound%20-%20Dictator.mp3

132BPM | 4:19 | 192kbps | ~6MB

if you are interested doing a remix, reply with some
background information and links to your own music.

thank you,
Sogax

Do you mean MAW Electonic's 'Tranz'? Or something older? The Lou2 thing you
mentioned was I guess 'Freaky' - Lou2 was Louie Vega and Lil Louis - great
track but not particularly 'techno', whereas 'Tranz' is kind of a Kraftwerk
homage...

ahh, it was freaky I meant. Not really techno I know, but you know!

forgot lil louis was on it. I used to like it, but haven't listened to it
since I sold everything in about '97/98.

I need to pick a copy up.

thanks for all the replies. bought back some memories.
