(313) ODB

2004-11-15 Thread Cyclone Wehner
This is what RZA said about ODB back when he toured Australia a few months
ago - he was talking of ODB after rehab. I thought it may appeal to some
fans here.

"He's loving life, he's enjoying life totally - he's free, so he really lets
you know he's free... To me, he is a true example of what freedom really
means, but unfortunately freedom has its boundaries - like you're free to
travel south by going north, but it's gonna take you twice the amount of
time, yo. But he's the type of person that he'll go north, just because he
can do it... That's the reason why we love him, because he really represents
his own heart."

Also ODB's version of Good Morning Heartache is a little classic.

(313) Cocoon club in Metropolis

2004-11-15 Thread Michael . Elliot-Knight

Metropolis (an architecture & design mag) has an article on the design of
the Cocoon club in Frankfurt

the article is called "14,500 Points of Light" and features lots of cool
photos - certainly looks like it's straight out of the movie "Barbarella".

However, I guess peeps have to make a living.

also, I guess to be noted is the fact that Derrick May stuck a load of

The remake by Soul Central that came out was crap IMO, and adding a vocal is

BIOS/INFO

PHONIQ
www.phoniq.net
phoniq is a collective of individuals dedicated to promoting bleeding edge
electronic music/art in interesting variable environments, with an
emphasis on exposing aural and visual talent that has not yet been exposed
to the electronic arts communities of montreal and canada. we aim to
showcase upstart music producers, djs, and emerging visual artists all
working in electronic realms. our foremost goal is to showcase off the
wall and raw genres of music and visual electronic arts- not just those
that are currently "en vogue" or will be shortly.

the concept for phoniq came together through the chance meeting of 2
active members of the montreal/canadian electronic music and digital arts
community: ckut-fm dj/host cyan and dub glitch techno producer naw. phoniq
has grown out of the combined histories of these 2 individuals. naw brings
the clonk legacy that he created 6 years ago in toronto, which hosted such
artists as: monolake, kit clayton and sutekh. cyan brings her ongoing
involvement in community radio, event coordinating and
dj talents.

since then the collective has grown to include 5 core members
responsible for keeping things running. after a short 6 months phoniq has
grown from an idea of "how can we create a viable promotional vehicle for
canadian electronic artists", into a music series, an active community mailing
list/community forum, and in the coming months phoniq will relaunch its site
designed to act as a portal resource for the canadian electronic music
community which will include a net-label.

About the performers:

ANDREW DUKE
(www.cognitionaudioworks.com)
Producer, DJ and remixer (Chicks on Speed, Pink Floyd) whose international
releases have been praised in the Wire and Exclaim. His new CD is Dead Air
Alive on Montreal's PetiteSono Records.

NAW
(www.noisefactoryrecords.com)
a.k.a Neil Wiernik, joins the tour in support of his new full-length CD Green
Nights Orange Days (Noise Factory Records). Purveyor of experimental dub-tech
rhythms, sound design and manipulation, he has been a force in the Canadian
electronic, techno and ambient music scene for 10 years. A co-founder and
member of Montreal's Phoniq collective, he has just returned from a
European mini-tour.

AKUMU
(www.spiderrecords.com)
Ambient sounds and shadowy beats with digital video manipulations from
Toronto's Deane Hughes (Thrive/Alchemy). The latest Akumu CD, Fluxes
(Spider Records) was composed in Central America and has been compared to
Tim Hecker by Montreal's ICI magazine and called "soundtrack to an
imaginary David Cronenberg Movie" by Toronto's eye weekly.

CYAN
(www.traktion.com)
cyan has been a regular of montreal's independent airwaves since 1996 and
currently co-hosts modular systems on ckut 90.3 fm. one of the founding members
of the phoniq collective, her dj sets can vary from minimal, dub and
glitch sounds to deep detroit inspired techno rhythms.

RE: (313) Ahhhh Monday. NEW Deep techno recommendations

2004-11-15 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Oooops! just pressed the wrong button so this may be preceded by a blank
mail : - )

I'll match your recommendations from the weekend with 3 of my own (though
not all deep techno)

1. Dez Williams : Hex Abuse - Only heard Claro Intellcto on A.I. before,
this is different, A side tracks good to listen to, B1 is definite
dancefloor! (B2 too much on a noise tip for me)

2. The Underground Trackmaster : Futuristic Throwback EP - Blake Baxter and
Abe Duque on fine funny form, haven't listened to the A side tracks a second
time as too busy checking the cheesy hip house vocals on the B tracks:
"Blake Baxter, trackmaster, slows it down or makes it go faster"... or
something like that - ace!

3. Afronaut / Son Del Batey : Golpe Tuyo Calinda - New Bugz goodness,
heard this a bit back and been waiting to get my paws on it, Puerto Rican
band playing live cut up and Afronauted!

I'd really like to come Friday but am conscious I have a gig on Saturday -
trying to bid goodbye to my former "I'll sleep after the weekend" ways.

(313) Ahhhh Monday. NEW Deep techno recommendations

2004-11-15 Thread alex . bond
Well, it's Monday folks.

I feel fresh as a daisy, not one drop of beer passed my lips yesterday.
Didn't go out this weekend. Spent it sorting out my spare room. All my
records in there, so now I can hide.
Made a mixtape too!

So, I locked the door, turned the volume up. Smoked a few joints. I found
that these three records are AMAZING new deep techno.

1) Carl Craig - Sandstorms - Planet E
2) Nwaq - The Sun - Delsin
3) Shed - Guile - Delsin

Don't sleep on that new Carl Craig. I think it'll get overlooked a bit, but
Sandstorms is one of the deepest most amazing pieces of music he's done in
some time. Nwaq's the Sun is in the same vein, beautiful moody melodic deep
electronics, and Shed's Guile, is well, one of the best delsin's for a
while.

ALL GOOD!

Alex

p.s. I'm putting together a rave crew to go to Liverpool on Friday night.
Anyone fancy it? Francis?

Might be a stupid answer, but when burning a CD, you have a number of options
related to filenames ; have you tried using a Joliet system, with all options
