Re: (313) What Do We Think Of This? ( DJ Mag Poll)
I'd have to agree here- Richard pretty much always hits the nail on the head in his reviews Jason On 26 Aug 2005, at 15:09, Stewart wrote: DJ mag could quite happily go out of business and 99.9% of us wouldn't notice. Well maybe guys like Richard Brophy would who does a pretty sterling job of reviewing and supporting techno in the mag. Hes reviewed pretty much all of my stuff there and I'm sure he gets a little frustrated at the lack of techno coverage the mag publishes. But at the end of the day its about selling mags and if they feel 99.9% of techno heads dont care about the mag then they aint gonna bother writing for them. Muzik and Jockey Slut have already fallen in the UK (the latter being quite a bit more respectable with the amount of good techno coverage they did) so there aint much space left in the media for techno artists to get any kind of headline, which is a shame I think. I remember guys like Fabrice Lig getting big interviews in the UK press when they were up and coming (if you can call doing an album for F-communications up and coming!) and Im sure it did them some good. Anyway yeah, I'm sure this top 100 list is gonna be full of the usual top names that help sell magazines and not reflect in any way, shape or form the actual talent that is really out there, but thats still no reason to not let them know that that they are out there. You never know, they might even allow Richard a full page for reviews again one day! In the meantime I'm off to buy Straight No Chaser Stu

Didn't that name come from the (ware)House in Chicago? Has anyone heard of these movies? Are they any good? Dense.
Re: (313) Origins of House music on apple.com...
Hi Dennis, I think we talked about (or at least mentioned) Maestro a couple of weeks ago when the DVD landed. It's a worthwhile documentary to own, I find any look back like that to be inspirational (like Tim Lawrences book 'Love saves the day'). Some nice little bits and bobs bundled with the DVD too. Still waiting on Unusual Suspects though. On a similar note, anyone know when High Tech Soul (www.hightechsoulthemovie.com) will get a DVD release? robin... Note he says *one* of the reasons though. Another one is 'cause it could be made in-house (as in, in a club itself.) I read the article on the Apple home page and was as much impressed by the fact that the filmmaker used Final Cut Pro, as by the idea of the film, which I haven't seen. Re: (313) Origins of House music on apple.com...
In some documentary or article I saw/read sometime, tony humphries was talking, and he said they called it house music because of house parties they had. The people making and spinning these drum machine and looped sample tracks were I guess, all buddies, and they'd play their latest creations at these parties... which were in their houses... so house music. Of course, I don't really know why it's called that...
