Hi List,

Does anyone know what the first track is on the DJ Bone mix from
Ireland that he played this past weekend? It sounds familiar, and it
goes into Armando's 100% Of Dissin' You. many thanks in advance,

first off, it is true that Bone's preference for these mixes is that
during the given week they be available as a stream. duh. that's
why we did it that way. but that decision has nothing to do with
making this difficult, secretive, or anything other than fun. it was
intended to create a mood, to create the 'moment in time' sense of
the project. not to give anyone a hard time.

However - yes, Bone has said a few times now that if you're someone
who feels like they *have* be able to download it or whatever, fine,
do what you must. no one over here is going to get their panties in
a bunch. he's also said a bunch of times that eventually they will
all be available. direct links to the first 5 or 6 have already been
given out in emails to list members. there's no desire to keep the
music from people. the reason it exists is so that we can enjoy it.

in the case of The Archiver (Graham Williams), he's hooked up with
the D1 guys in dublin. Graham is the tech guy who recorded the mix
at this dublin party last weekend, and someone who apparently needs
put down the computer for a few hours and go for a walk. it is true
that at the time he got permission from Bone to put up a link to the
set. why he feels the need to be mr. secret sarcastic hacker boy, i
don't know.

another however, @ Graham: after talking to Bone today he wanted me
to tell you that while he did say you could put up the link, he had
no idea you were going to post it from here to the end of the earth.
nor was that intent. he thought you only meant on your site or maybe

This is very reasonable.

I hope people understand what is going on here. Bone and those
working with him on this have planned this out very carefully.
These are *exceptional* mixes he's putting out, up to my highest
personal expectations for what the best Detroit DJs can do.

Bone says he wants to focus on the music and let that represent.
That's good enough for me. Sometimes it's a good idea to drop
all the drama and let that reality come through. All I see is a
request to respect the music without a long list of dos and don'ts.
What could be so hard about that.

Re: (313) drama ATTACK

2005-10-20 Thread Jamil Ali

What the hell, I may as well put my two cents in.

1) I think it's a shame when a good piece of music (including mixes)
gets lost, and although it's less likely to happen now with mp3s and
stuff, I think it's good to make an effort to preserve. I mean, look at
the deephousepage... some of these old mixes we are lucky to have, and
they're up there because maybe one person managed to record something
that wasn't meant to be recorded, and he hung on to it for 30 years.

2) What if the only place you can or want to listen to the mixes is not
in front of a computer with an internet connection? Maybe you only get
to listen properly in your car or on your ipod or something. Then you
need to download.

3) What if you don't have a chance to listen at home or work (or
wherever you listen) during that wone week when the show is up?

4) If all the mixes are going to be available to download later on
anyway, then what's the big deal if they're available now? (I know, you
could say what's the big deal with waiting for them, but you never know
what will happen).

5) The idea of something just existing for a moment in time is nice, and
is maybe as appropriate to music as it is to sunsets and emotions and
whatever else, but it sucks for people who have less access to more of
more-or-less the same. I'm sure Bone has a bunch of records that a lot
of us would never hear again if we didn't have a copy of whatever mix he
played them on. I've heard pieces of music on the radio that I've never
been able to find (or even find the name of) and as some of them were
really amazing, I think it's a real shame that I may never hear them again.

I think the mixes are great, I really enjoy listening to them, and I
have to say, I enjoy being able to go back and listen again.
