That's terrible news.

The man was a musical genius, only 32. Way too young. Such a shame :(

RIP.

Hawtin says the recording, titled 9:20, features elements that should be familiar to fans of his
adventurous electronic works. But it's also something of a departure for him -- a sculpted
cinematic piece that he has called a mini-movie. The song will be heard during the choreographed
segment of the opening ceremonies, following the parade of nations and introduction of dignitaries.

Until a dress rehearsal Wednesday night, the entire piece was all theoretical, envisioned by
Hawtin only through Cosimi's verbal directions, pictures and diagrams. Mercifully, he says, his
contribution to the work is pre-recorded so he can just sit back and watch the spectacle unfold
once again today.

Yup. I was going to post this earlier and got side tracked. James John
Doe/Jay Dee/J Dilla Yancey died in LA. The cause of death has been listed
in the news as either kidney failure, liver failure, or bone marrow disease
(i.e. still unknown). This is a great loss for the world of music. I've only
met him in passing maybe 10 years ago, but the impact his music has had on
me is quite significant.

RIP dude. You've earned your peace.

I watched it last night and the ceremony was silly pretentious bombastic
nonsense (quite fittingly for Richie Haircut I suppose) - it was hard to
keep a straight face

This is really weird. It was hilarious hearing the German announcer
talking about DJ Richie Hawtin AKA Plastikman.

Too bad he cut the overdose sample.

i'm left wondering if what we saw on US television was edited. first
it was the music that is on the m-nus site now (presumably 9:20)
and then suddenly it was substance abuse..
