From the red bull interview: The next thing I want to show you is something I can do because I am Italian. Most Italian people don't speak English. So we never understand the words of a song. And that's why I don't care when it's sung in this way … (plays a reggae song with vocals speeded up to 45) For me, as a person who doesn't understand the words, this pitched up voice is simply music. I thought this was cute, though I understand completely ;) Jamil Emiliano Zani wrote: crazy... I still can't make out lyrics half the time, even if I speak the language And I know what you mean about lyrics taking the focus off the music. But, on those occasions where the lyrics and the music are good and go together perfectly - that's something special. Jamil robin wrote: Me too Rob. It's quite common I think. robin... Indeed ! There so much in his voice. I find I 'translate' lyrics into a sequence of notes and they just become a voice used as an instrument. Words well with hip hop / rap and the flow becomes allmost jazzlike as certain sequences of notes recycled and mututed. (313) RYAN CROSSON SETH TROXLER in NYC Friday 4/14
Friday April 14 *THE BUNKER* THE NEW DANCE SOUND OF DETROIT: Young Seth aka Seth Troxler (FXHE, Fabric | Detroit) Ryan Crosson aka Berg Nixon (M_nus, Telegraph, Trapez | Detroit) live pa Tonight we're bringing in two of the most exciting next-wave producers from Detroit. Seth Troxler hasn't released very much music yet, but you'll be hearing alot from this prolific 20 year old (!!!) producer in the near future. He has a track on a compilation on Omar S's FXHE label and Matthew Dear included one of his tracks on his new Fabric mix CD. He plays around Detroit often, including a residency at the infamous Untitled party. Tonight is his NYC debut. Ryan Crosson has been making major waves in the minimal techno scene since his releases started appearing in late 2005. His debut EP on Trapez LTD was very well received, and he released two monster EPs on M_nus (as Berg Nixon) and Telegraph in early 2006. Drawing from artists like Plastikman, Matthew Dear, Stewart Walker, and a heavy dose of Magda DJ sets, Ryan focuses his attention on percussive programming, dubby basslines, and dark atmospheres. In addition to many successful gigs in the midwest, Ryan has upcoming dates at huge European clubs such as Watergate in Berlin and The End in London. Like Seth, we feel that Ryan will be turning alot of heads as part of the next wave of Detroit techno. http://www.ryancrosson.com/ plus resident DJs: Spinoza, Movement visual residents: Giles Hendrix, Chris Jordan sound: mm bar: Heather, Aaron door: Kimi the Bunker Fridays at subTonic 107 Norfolk Street (212)358-7501 www.klever.org/thebunkernyc $5, 21+, 10p-4a SUNDAY 4/16 EASTER LEFTOVERS AT LOVE: Resident DJs: Spinoza, Plaslaiko, Wolf+Lamb Love 4p-12mid 40 West 8th Street (enter on Macdougal) www.leftoversatlove.com $5 before 6pm, $10 after, $5 all night with Marcy Hotel keycard This week only: Drink ticket egg hunt!
