(313) some good music...

2006-07-17 Thread J.T.
just sorted thru a few weeks of rushhour mailouts checkin clips...

new arpanet sounds real nice...

and kai alce on realsoon! not nearly enough house like this around right now,
cmon it's summer! that napiheads on sound signature was disappointing..

motorcitysoul mbali on stir15 (nice german house label that put out that
great record with chez damier last year)..great afro-house style..

and who monolake - alaska melting -- the a-side is the best basic channel
style track i have heard in ages...sounding like a lost phylyps track!i'm
still reeling from their depeche mode remixes and plumbicon too...

and who is steve tang? nice record on emphasis...

new loco dice and mathew jonson caught my ear at first but sound sorta flat and
uptight after a couple listens...

those were my picks...what else good has been around?

whoa man, ive gotta disagree on that one. theo f*cking killed it with
that joint at the 05 movement 3 chairs party. ive only pulled that one
out for special occasions, it always bangs it out. im really feeling
the napi heads 12 on psychostasia as well, thats got some really deep
tripped out sh*t on it, too. in fact, those two 12s are amongst the
most played house records at my house in the last couple months..

havent heard that new kai joint, but ive been feeling his mahogani
track again recently, thats the jam. i think i have all his records,
the mahogani, the late night essentials, and the trackmode.

ahh well that maybe the case...i like it plenty really it's just not the sort
of thing that gets me excited these days or as wild as some 3 chairs related
stuff so i was disappointed...i also have to admit i'm not a big fan of the
male vocal on the a-side (love the girls cooing in your eyes tho) and i'm not
a big fan of the harp flourishes on the b-side...and somehow it all just sounds
a little conservative to me. that tends to happen the more live instrumentation
is involved because that's a sound palette that's been extremely well explored.
i'm more in deep electronic mode these days...just me perhaps..

the napi heads 12 on psychostasia as well, thats got some really deep
tripped out sh*t on it, too. in fact, those two 12s are amongst the

too trippy for menot really a fan of the indian percussion or vocal.

on the other hand i've been listening to lots of my dad's african jive records
lately and they're all so insanely good i want to re-edit every one i hear...

havent heard that new kai joint, but ive been feeling his mahogani

you'll like it! in fact it's absolutely fantastic...think it's his best record
yet...amazing beats and chilled out keys and nice vocals, vocal snatches,
breathingdeep and chill summertime house music!! way more original and out
there to my ears than napiheds somehow...just hits the spot

Re: (313) some good music...

2006-07-17 Thread J.T.
ooh, also have to add that quinCE americana record on delsin to the list, after
just checking some clips...altho it does sound pretty much exactly like a los
hermanos/ur record, so it doesnt win any originality points, but it's very very
nice!

Re: (313) some good music...

2006-07-17 Thread robin

new arpanet sounds real nice...

I picked that up, very nice. Feeling the track 'Infinite Density' the
most (I love slow electro, what can I say) though 'Event Horizon' is
also good.

motorcitysoul mbali on stir15 (nice german house label that put
out that great record with chez damier last year)..great afro-house
style..

I like the sound of the clips of that...need to check the vinyl
though. It's on my list.

and who is steve tang? nice record on emphasis...

I picked that up too. Quite straightforward (312/313 influenced) but
very nicely done. I remember he did a mix for Matt MacQueen's Sonic
Sunset show a while back. The track 'Space Dance' does it for me the
most.

mathew jonson caught my ear at first but sound sorta flat and
uptight after a couple listens...

I find that with a lot of his stuff. A bit sugary. This Cobblestone
thing is nice though with that effected vocal ('Peace (something)'
can't remember the exact name)

those were my picks...what else good has been around?

Escort 'Starlight' with a Darshan Jesrani dub mix on there. Pretty
good stuff for the summer.

Mike Grant Deepchord remix. The clips sounded wicked and the actual
vinyl is nice though could progress a little more.

Monojunk 'Channel B' on Styrax Leaves. Like one of the Phylyps Tracks
but less insane. Works lovely slowed down.

Robert Owens and Coldcut 'Walk a Mile in My Shoes' - Henrik Schwarz
mixes. Owens vocal just kills me on this. Brilliant. (I've only just
picked this up, dunno how new it is).

Other picks, quickly, the new Common Factor 'Through..' (fat
electrodisco sounding), Repeat Orchestra (the melancholy of Rick Wade
but more techno), those Parteharde Ron Hardy edits,
ESG - Insane (nice and minimal, best thing on the new LP, didn't
really dig the rest).

Anyone else?

Uh, most money I've spent? I can't recall the exact record anymore but
maybe it was $60 to $80? Most likely too much for what I bought and could
have been acquired cheaper had I known all the hunting grounds at the time.
It could have been Kenny Larkin's Azymuth - I know I paid at least $40
for the True People box.

 Good day,

I just noticed someone had a myspace profile in their email tag. Any
other list members up on there? Come on...it's lame and addictive but
 ya gotta love it.

On a music related note. Someone told me this weekend they paid 40$
for a record they'd craved for years.
Got me thinking what other prices people have paid for waxed gems.

Re: (313) some good music...

2006-07-17 Thread J.T.
Escort 'Starlight' with a Darshan Jesrani dub mix on there. Pretty
good stuff for the summer.

oh yeah that's pretty amazing! straight up live disco, extremely
tight...they're playing 7/27 at tribeca hotel in nyc for anyone up there...i
wanted to go...

Mike (Huckaby) Deepchord remix. The clips sounded wicked and the actual
vinyl is nice though could progress a little more.

i kinda liked it but it was a bit too scatterbrained and choppy, just random
segments from the original dropped over a beat...cool but not quite

Monojunk 'Channel B' on Styrax Leaves. Like one of the Phylyps Tracks
but less insane. Works lovely slowed down.

oh yeah that is nice! altho that new monolake is sounding even more like
classic basic channel...at least the a-side...

thanks for the tips and bonafide music talk robin...
