So, this is it? The end of endless ebay auctions that go for
more than 150 USD for a single record?

Didn't someone mention just a few weeks ago that Gerald and
Sean didn't have any firm plans for the re-release of Matrix001?

Covert isn't the only place I've seen this re-release tipped. Same info as
Covert have too. Yay! Geeked to hear the Deep Chord mix too.

(313) 3 Chairs, Manchester

2006-10-16 Thread robin

Just a quick note to say that 3 Chairs on Saturday night (in Manchester,
UK) was a really good night. Got there and the PA was initially
disappointing but it was possible to get close enough to hear it properly.

Theo and Moodymann were ok though mr. kdj does like name-checking the
town a little too often helllooo mnchester :). Their styles are a
little too broken up for me, obviously some like this and in fact they
were fine as warm up. Then came Malik Pittman who was in a different
league altogether. House, techno he was all over it with that hands on
approach that all our lot love. Rick Wilhite wasn't too shabby either
going back to back with Malik. They all seemed to be having fun too
which is not something you always see.

Was also good to see some familiar names too. BT, Dan Bean, Aidy (if
you're on here). Shame I didn't get chance to chat to you quite as much
as I'd liked.

Good to see BT was there, learning about soul and stuff. No more
crappy progressive house and bad boy band pop then hopefully. Next
time maybe he can take some mates like Oakey. How did you convince
him to fly all the way over LA and go to Manch? spect!

(313) Trentemollier

2006-10-16 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Does anyone hear like the Trentemollier album, The Last Resort? It's
not like his singles, but deeper - deep with minimal turns. Reminds
me a bit of Daniel Lanois on the first cut. V impressive! Also here
in Melb we had a guy called Strobocop from Cologne who's v
impressive. Anyone into him here on 313? I am clamouring for his
music now. I am kicking myself for missing him and Marco Passarani.
Both were/are guests of the Red Bull Music Academy. But I did see
Ryuichi Sakamoto's Insen with Carsten Nicolai and that was
incredible!!! Must see! The tragedy is that Sakamoto has NO knowledge
of Detroit techno... He needs to hang with a Mills, a May, and hear
their music!

strobocop is one of my favourite djs in cologne from the kompakt associated
crew. excellent tunes, always on point. does he still produce? haven't heard a
production from him for a long time.

btw: the guy's called trentemøller, not trentemollier.
he's swedish, not french ;)

oh, and his album is indeed very good, thank god not a collection of dancefloor
tracks, but a real album. some parts remind me of massive attack and
portishead, but in good way. very recommendable.

2006-10-16 Thread David Beattie
Just to echo what Robin said (although I think you missed Malik doing the first
1.5 hours of the night).
I dont get why he goes on first, he was killing it, then Theo came on and
someone really does have to
tell him that a bit of EQing is OK but stop it with the Stevie Wonder
impressions and get on with playing
records. KDJ was what I expected, perhaps a bit better even to be honest, good
tunes but no real structure
or direction. Wilhite was really good too - but the star of the show for me was
Malik, no doubt.

Good to meet Robin, Francis, Nick and Dan and also catch up with Alex ACME Bond
again.

Might come down for another one of these Warehouse parties before the end of
the year.

Cheers
BT

RE: (313) 3 Chairs, Manchester

2006-10-16 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Snap what everyone's said so far.
All 4 good but Malik maybe the best.
KDJ a bit stop/start.
Theo a little too much on the EQing.
Rick W - Also Sprach Zarathustra OUT OF ORDER
I thought the sound wasn't that good, there was far too much top end - I had
too move away from the front as it was hurting my ears.
You know it's not good when it's like it's not loud enough but it's painful and
your ears ring afterward. Time for me to start
wearing protection I think even though I don't like the thought of that. Seen
recommendations before but if anyone cares to drop me
a line to save me searching the archive it's be appreciated.
It seemed better earlier so maybe Theo left it sharp when he'd finished going
mad with the EQ.
Mind you although I proffered the others I thought Theo played the best record
all night - it was probably the techno-iest and was
that one that slowed right down and then back up again near the end? (not sure
if that was him or the tune but it was a greater than
1210-possible change in speed, don't know what those CD decks'll do) does
anyone know what the tune was?
Nice to meet both folks from the list and their crews too.
Robin I wish I'd known you'd seen Aidy there! I'd loved to have met him having
been well served by Vinyl Underground for many
years.
Dan - have you put that record down yet?
