RE: (313) foo_discogs, a tagger plugin for foobar2000
-Original Message- From: Michael Pujos [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 09 December 2006 22:26 To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) foo_discogs, a tagger plugin for foobar2000 Hi people, I've been developping a plugin for the foobar2k audio player (http://www.foobar2000.org/). I thought this could be of interest to some of you. Features: - tag files using discog data. Retrieve more info than most taggers. Goes to extra length to make sure retrieved data is correct and well formatted - retrieve all available album art - flexible tag mapping allows you to write only what you want where you want - use of meta data in tags to display artist / label / release discogs www page - able to later update specified tags and update album art (useful to update rating and fetch new art) Current version: 0.25 Download: http://bubbleguuum.free.fr/foo_discogs/foo_discogs_0.25.zip Some needed DLLs if you don't have them (or too old versions): http://bubbleguuum.free.fr/foo_discogs/libcurl.zip. Unpack this in fb2k root directory Screenshot of the plugin in action: http://bubbleguuum.free.fr/foo_discogs/foo_discogs.png Screenshot of fb2k using extensively discogs data: http://bubbleguuum.free.fr/foo_discogs/foo_discogs2.png Official thread: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=50523 Discogs thread: http://www.discogs.com/forums/topic?topic_id=118729 That looks brilliant! Although I've been pleasently surprised by the availability of most things on the CDDB-type databases that are out there already, it would be fantastic to have the ability to link up the tags with the database that is most used for the music that most of us have. And I could even see a future inversion of this where you can import albums to drafts on discogs from the fully tagged mp3s. One of the things I like best about foobar are its tagging features, particularly mastertagger's ability to guess the tags from the filename. Saves loads of time manually entering tags. Anyway... one question I have about your system is how it would work with inconsistencies or multiplicities in the discogs database. For instance, if you are trying to tag your ripped copy of Depeche Mode's Speak Spell, which has been released on 15 million labels and umpteen formats, how does foobar know which one of the releases to use as its referent? This is inherently a problem with (mostly) duplicate (and sometimes discrepant) data in the discogs database which I'm sure no one has found the best way around yet. While much of this problem is about there being 30 different releases of the same work, there are also issues like the Japanese import on CD, which has four extra tracks that would need to be accounted for. I'm just curious how this would accommodate that. Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. It does just that: import most data (even submitter, or number of people on wants / possess a release!) and let you map it to whatever tag you like. I'm just curious how this would accommodate that. To tag a release you have to find manually the release id on discogs using search. If the release URL is http://www.discogs.com/release/346493, you'll have to enter 346493 as release id. For the few programs allowing to tag from discogs I tried , I found it was much faster to find the release manually using a web browser rather than to go through multiple popups which can be error prone as like you say some releases are named the same. Don't let you intimidate by the fact you have to find manually the release id because after that the plugin is very powerful and configurable. You have to enter the release id once as it's stored in a tag and used for useful things like later fetch art, update tags etc. Also the plugin will let you display the discogs www page for artist / label / release / album art, and as it's bindable to keyboard! If you got v0.25, please get v0.26 instead which fixes a few bugs: http://bubbleguuum.free.fr/foo_discogs/foo_discogs_0.26.zip

Erm... no offense, but I sub to urban dictionary's daily email and I wouldn't quote them as a source for anything, especially urban slang. Yesterday's entry : Urban Word of the Day December 09, 2006: Hasselhoffing The act of changing a colleague's desktop wallpaper to display the manly physique of David Hasselhoff. Dear God man! I leave my workstation for a few moments to visit the big boys room and you've Hasselhoffed me! -- slightly amusing, possibly, but looks to me like people sitting around making stuff up in hopes that it catches on. And that's the case with the bulk of what they do. jef http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=word+is+bond look how many entries there are for this one. and look how it is a phrase that has a history and actually makes sense. word is born makes no sense at all.

Tom can say 'word is bond'. I can say 'word is born'. Po-TAY-to, po-TAH-to. I don't go correcting people's use of double negatives, or for half of the stupid, meaningless things people say which are nonetheless part of everday English. Tom ain't fly. That’s all. ...you see! (313) New 'Strings Of Life' version...
(apologies if this has already been mentioned, but I don't think so) I though I'd heard just about every version of Strings of Life going... Strings, strings, strings. Come on in Strings of Life lovers. We got original strings, Juan Magic Atkins remix strings, minimal strings, vocal strings, cheesy strings. And now, tonight's special: Francesco Tristano's interpretation: http://clone.nl/item8162.html I'm a bit disappointed by Apparat's... Silizium is such a quality EP I was hoping for greater things. Mind you, it is hard to tell from the short clip on the Clone site. Has anyone checked this release yet? N -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
