(313) record collector (iowa city) vinyl clearance sale

2007-06-15 Thread kent williams

The Record Collector, Iowa City's premiere record store for 25 years,
is moving locations, and is blowing out EDM vinyl of all sorts -- 10
records for $50, 25 for $75, 50 for $125, 100 for $200. Anyone
wanting to drive over from Chicago can stay at my place if you want to
make a pilgrimage.

What's there? I've gotten 50 records so far, and only scratched the
surface. Basic Channel, UR, Force Tracks, Traxx, Relief, Kanzleramt,
Profan, Disco records, Tech House, tons of House...

For some reason there aren't many local vinyl DJs left, because they
say just me and a couple of other people have jumped on this. There
is still tons of stuff -- I found 60 records and put back 35...

What I got tonight:

UR Message To The Majors

It was a great set. It was a bit programmed, but you definitely felt
their involvement and connection with the crowd. The only other time I
saw them live was in 2000 or 2001 and this set was much better. They
were really getting into it and the enthusiasm was very infectious.
Plus it just sounded so damn good.

im really salty i missed their set now, though i wouldnt have left rs
no matter how good they were. their live set in 05 left much to be
desired, the hiphop section was really bland and their actual dance
bits seemed really pre-programmed and not too interactive. good to
hear theyve got it together, id really like to see them now!

yeah, they've got a great setup now - played with them in vienna last
year and they were able to put it all together and soundcheck in less
than 45 minutes. was impressive how many bits and pieces they kept
pulling out of their flightcases! surprised it's all so light...
was even more impressive at the festival as they had to set it all up
offstage and then just carry it on with 5 minutes left to plug it in to
the system. and no soundcheck...
...lovely people too :)

 Thanks for putting this up!!

For eveyrone else I think it is roughly 55 minutes in.

There was so much energy there, great show, and i think all the
touring the guys have done have now made them put on a really really
 awesome show.

BTW I was talking to Lenny about touring and he said they can fit all
their gear into 20 kg and they made their whole thing plug and play so
it's pretty easy to get them out to play. So if you know someone who
can put on a party you should definitely get them to come and play

Given that the limit from the USA to Australia is 2 suitcases of 30 kg
each that is a pretty awesome thing they managed to get it all into
 that.

 Alright you lot.

I haven't forgotten - I have just switched ISPs and there are 'teething
troubles' which loosely translated means my connection is all kinds of
screwed up. Once I have it sorted, I'll post the link to the Tribe session
 and Detroit mix.

I have to say, it isn't anything like I expected. It is actually better!
 This is proper heavy jazz.

It's some exclusive versions of tracks on his upcoming Tribe project.

He reassembled the existing Tribe members at his studio along with John
Arnold and Karriem Riggins (and others?) to make some new tracks in the
the spirit of the original Tribe recordings.

Apologies to those that already know, but Tribe was a 70s jazz
collective from Detroit on a similar tip to Black Jazz, Strata East
etc. They released some amazing records that are now heavy collectors
  pieces.
