they came back a year or two ago with a slew of vinyl represses and some new things too, IIRC. there were many posts on here at the time! they never did the full list of represses that they originally were going to do, which is too bad as all the ones i wanted were not the ones they actually did. tom On Sat, Feb 23, 2008 at 10:46 PM, Southern Outpost <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I thought R&S went out of business years ago? > > > > On Sat, Feb 23, 2008 at 6:25 PM, Jacob Arnold <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Good to see R&S is finally starting some CD reissues: > > http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013K974G/ > > > > Anyone know what else is coming? > > > > Jacob > > > > > > > > -- > > underground music reviews > > http://www.gridface.com/ > > > > > > > > > > -- > -- > Southern Outpost > Sydney - San Francisco - Berlin > http://www.southernoutpost.com > -- >

Come on Tom, let it go. When you guys beef, neither of you show your best side. And in this particular case? What they say in Iowa is, the smaller the stakes, the bigger the beef. It sounds funnier when you say it out loud. For the record, I've brought Fred to Iowa to play and people still talk about it, and he was fun to be around, and in terms of techno history, his place is indisputable. Tom I have tremendous respect for as well as a DJ and a music fan. I try and stay neutral in this thing, but in a perfect world, Tom and Fred would keep their ill will off the list entirely. (313) marketing to the underground
recent discussions reminded me of the book "Unmarketable: Brandalism, Copyfighting, Mocketing, and the Erosion of Integrity" by anne elizabeth moore. "For years the do-it-yourself (DIY)/punk underground has worked against the logic of mass production and creative uniformity, disseminating radical ideas and directly making and trading goods and services. But what happens when the underground becomes just another market? What happens when the very tools that the artists and activists have used to build word of mouth are coopted by corporate America? What happens to cultural resistance when it becomes just another marketing platform? Unmarketable examines the corrosive effects of corporate infiltration of the underground. Activist and author Anne Elizabeth Moore takes a critical look at the savvy advertising agencies, corporate marketing teams, and branding experts who use DIY techniques to reach a youth market?and at members of the underground who have helped forward corporate agendas through their own artistic, and occasionally activist, projects." though the book is written from the perspective of someone who was an active participant in the "industy" that surrounded the underground punk scene and makes no mention of theo & addidas or ghostly & hummer or juan & ford or the general attempts at co-opting the underground techno scene by the mainstream beginning in the late 90's, it could just as easily have been written by someone who was an active participant in the underground techno scene instead (and be just as valid).
