Re: (313) festival hits?
Nope - i've seen him and heard a few mixes (and a few other friends who's opinion I trust have too) and lame pretty much hits the nail on the head for me. No idea how he went from making some truly excellent music to playing such blandness- things like Sweat and Stand are a fantastic meld of House and Techno styles and I still play them so I can't see how he makes the connection between those tracks and what he plays these days. Supposed to be a really nice guy though :) Jason 2008/5/25 /0 [EMAIL PROTECTED]: pullens been lame for years, with a few exceptions. ...maybe when he plays outside of detroit its a different story, as is often the case. eevo rules, so does stefan. @k-j, any hint of whether there will be other represses...i'm especially after the ross 154 one, and the max 404 ones i wrote max 404 off at the time cus i didn't go for his spoken word stuff...but his instrumental stuff is some of the deepest techno ever...you could do a great eevo mix using his stuff alone... summer is a funny time for eevo tho...it's so dark and sensitive, i consider it fall/winter music

I must admit that I haven't spent much time at the actual festival so far. Having said that, it's hard to tell what the popular tunes are because when I walk around most of the music sounds generic and homogenous. -Original Message- From: Frank Glazer [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 25 May 2008 18:48 To: ken odeluga [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) festival hits? i bet a ton of people are playing that shite total departure cut, and rekorder00. blech. If you're stil around on Tuesday it's worth trying Flames. I spent a couple of hours there yesterday and their stock is excellent right now, especially for soul and jazz. The shop is down a little alley just off Woodward on Hancock, behind the abandoned Police station. Didn't enjoy Melodies so much (though that was a few years ago), pulled some good disco out there though. -Original Message- From: Michael Kuszynski [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 25 May 2008 18:50 To: robin [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) detroit record shops and recording equipment stores here now. ridiculous. so much music. RE: (313) afterparty notes
Friday night. Ken Collier tribute. This was at a really nice space just South of Jefferson near the Shorecrest Realy good sound, great vibe and good music. Al Ester was probably the highlight, haven't seen someone dance around behind the decks that much for a while. Sistrum/Aestethic Audio party. At a Jamaican juice bar on Woodward called Trenchtown. Really enjoyed the alcohol free atmosphere, it seemed noticeably different. More dancing for a start. Omar S came on at about 3.30. He was excellent, really hitting his stride, but we had to leave at 4 sadly. Saturday night Soul Skate Excellent as ever. Great to skate to such good music and of course to watch the spectacle. Probably less exciting for North Americans but nothing on that scale exists in the UK that I'm aware of. Derrick May and Quentin Harris Brilliant downtown space, perfect for a party - small and dark. Both DJs good, was pleasantly surprised by Quentin Harris. He really plays his records well, if you know what I mean. Some techy less interesting bits but deployed some punishing female gospelly acapellas. It went off when he dropped 'Blow Your House Down'. -Original Message- From: Michael Kuszynski [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: 25 May 2008 10:37 To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) afterparty notes any reviews or thoughts on afterparties last night. -- --- Michael Kuszynski [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.planerecordings.com New York, NY
(313) Festival acts so far
As I said, haven't been at the festival that much but saw a couple of good things. Egyptian Lover and Jamie Jupiter: The festival production is particularly good this year, with the Red Bull Stage under a huge canopy by the river, next to the pyramid thing. Watching them perform with the audience grasped firmly in the palm of their hands in the golden late evening sunshine was magical. Great entertainers and pretty funny. DBX: Slightly slow start but excellent second half of his set. He said he was having some technical problems but it sounded pretty good to me. Slightly surreal to see him playing live while scantily clad gogo dancers with 'Paxahau' emblazoned on their bottoms writhed on the projection screen. Ectomorph: V nice bubbling set. From electro to techno but all with a really warm feel

heading back to ny tomorrow morning. got to work. hawtin played very nicely sounding but generic hardish techno for the first thirty minutes. then went to stand on main stage as miles maeda was closing and carl craig is doing his carl craig thing. he was talking for a few minutes of a detroit techno pep talk.
