(313) fbk presents absoloop...for immediate download! (spam?)
(hopefully this meets the requirements for being 313 related): Hello all 313ers! My name is Kevin Kennedy, I am also known as fbk, the sleep engineer, and powerhouse. I am forwarding a link to my new album and DJ mix (which can be downloaded and shared if you like)...but, before I do that, I felt the need to explain why I am doing this: I am looking for feedback from all of you wonderful people because I respect your opinions and I know that this list is full of opinionated people and music listeners. I am 313 related as well, due to my affiliations with several Detroit artists (and a couple of releases on Frictional and Xplor as well). I hope that you will enjoy what I have created...and thank you for listening in advance...please get in touch with me on my contact link on the following site: http://abso.lo0p.us -- fbk sleepengineering/absoloop US
Re: (313) Pioneer, Technics, Pacemaker, Laptop ?
the only solution that works for me is NI traktor scratch (sure, similar products would probably work aswell) , you can connect the special cables that goes between the technics and the mixer in between sets and you dont have to leave the computer or audiointerface in the booth prior to the gig, just bring it in and connect just before youre on. enables you to play both black gold and digital with the greatest. interface. ever. *** email: erasemu...@mac.com .mac: erasemusic msn: erasemu...@msn.com aim: erasemusic yahoo: erasemu...@yahoo.com googletalk: erasemusic icq: 344917989 www.myspace.com/djerase *** On 21 jan 2009, at 18.48, Benoît Pueyo wrote: First of all im a vinyl lover and Ill never give up that... Maybe thats silly but ive become too much used to browse easily with pictures on the records and put them fast on the decks. My basic brain also considers i will not pay for something i can get for free, then vinyl is also a way to make myself contribute to the underground music business necesary to make some creators work. But mp3 has also become unavoidable, to be able to play 'only digital' music coming from free netlabels (including my tracks). So I need a solution both efficient for my home and also for gigs, and that allow me to play both vinyl and mp3 : 1) Pacemaker. To me the best solution (why ? tactile pitch bend and small size), specially knowing it will be available at reasonable cost in a few months. But well its not really handy specially in the kindof gig where the club owner gives you a new drink at each record you play. Actually my dream consists of an ipod touch / iphone app for djing. Some already exist but with way too much latency. Any more info ? 2) Laptop. Kindof affordable nowadays but less 'tactile' feeling unless you add a midi controller or some serato thing. What i dont like : all the plunging things to do to make everything works. You cannot arrive somewhere and start playing a few minutes after. I dont even talk about browsing tracks, but its also the problem with the pacemaker. 3) CD player. Now each club has so i can buy for home purpose only and bring only records to the gigs. Problem : i do not trust on grabbed cds, they do not last (ive lost tons of my sets i archived only on cd 5 years ago), which means after some years of use, you need to 'check' if your classics still work. Imagining i keep the cd solution (becasue you only bring records with you and browsing can be done fastly), the ideal CD for my home sounds to be the Technics, coz of the 'vinyl' touch i want. But ive just heard very bad things about the master tempo (specially the dj scandal youtube) but it seems to have been fixed. Am i correct ? And why with that corrected, most the people still prefer the Pioneer ? Your opinion interests me, knowing Ill still palay most of the music through vinyl and a regular mixer, which means I dont care about all the effects and mixing possibilties (including EQ) on the above mentionned devices. Cheers. -- Benoît.
Re: (313) EevoNext presents: Tim Wolff - Sostenuto EP
I don't think anyone seriously thinks Eevolute/Eevonext over-promote on the 313 list. And for your 'shameless other-promotion' file, I always buy everything Stefan and the gang put out. The quality control is quite high, and besides that I consider the Eevo crew friends, and I want to support them. As for the Sostenuto EP, I can't wait to play these tracks out. They're good listening music -- listening to it right now -- but they have the grease to get the dance floor going. Sostenuto is obviously in the 'A-minor chord on the offbeat' category of techno track, but the orchestral flourishes and the french horn lead line lift it up. It would fit well in a Dan Bell or Carl Craig set, while standing out as being different. Maybe I've said it before, but way back, before Carl Craig became a big deal, he worked a lot with Stefan, and as much as Dutchies were influenced and inspired by Detroit techno, Carl Craig was very much influenced by Stefan and other Dutch producers' music of the time. One of my 'fantasy releases' would be a Carl Craig/Stefan Robbers split where they each contributed a track and then remixed each other.

RE: (313) stoney question
We could start by saying it's not well known - the way your question is phrased, suggests you think it's a well-known fact. It isn't, so don't worry about that. Re: (313) Pioneer, Technics, Pacemaker, Laptop ?
I am not sure what retailers are in your area, but most here in the states will allow you to demo their gear. I have friends that use Serato and Traktor Scratch and they all seem happy with their choices. There is a Traktor Scratch package that includes a midi controller/mixer which is kind of cool. Also, the new CDJ 400 does have mp3 and USB connections. It is a nice CDJ for the money. Really it is up to you, but I understand investing a bunch of money on something that you may not like or use can be difficult. - Original Message From: Benoît Pueyo To: list 313 <313@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, January 21, 2009 2:19:40 PM Subject: Re: (313) Pioneer, Technics, Pacemaker, Laptop ? > Pacemaker and ipod DJing will soon show their limitations to you; they're > quite toylike gadgets and not at all robust; I understand (for a gig use), however to me these devices are not more fragile than a laptop. I know they are gadgets but dont they fit to 'ocasionnaly' play mp3s in gigs ? Good solution 1 : why dont all these CDJs dont have an usb dock to plug media storage device ? > I'll put in a vote for Traktor Scratch Pro; Well you know there are some parties you dont have time un plug decks, plus scratch amp and replug everything onto the mixer. If you headline some big gig, the promoter will care of that before. But small and/or private parties are not like that. Sometimes you just arrive and have to play just after the previous dj. Good solution 2 : why most standard club mixers (i mean very expansive) dont have a soundcard allowing to control traktor vith cd/vinyl just by plugging a laptop on them (i think xone 3d does that) ? At the moment no perfect solution. -- Benoît.

RE: (313) Closure of the Clone record label
It's true, I am not judging just by what the statement says JT, and this arguably is very unfair on my part, not to mention downright fantasist behaviour! :) Still, I mean no harm, nor ill will, in going further and admittedly speculating, that the current economic conditions, to which few of us are immune, are part of the reason for the closure too. The truth is, I suspect none of us outside of Clone can actually know the complete reasons for sure - but maybe you definitely do? If so, please excuse me. However from my perspective, for Clone, the what the underlying reason is, isn't as important as the fact that they're a great label, run by great people, with whom many of us can identify. That means we can all have a good measure of confidence in their future, no matter what they choose to do with it. And _that_ is in fact reflected quite well - also implictly, rather than explicity, note - in the statement too. See ya soon :) Ken -Original Message- From: JT Stewart [mailto:etmach...@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 21, 2009 5:23 PM To: Odeluga, Ken Cc: 313 Mailinglist List Subject: Re: (313) Closure of the Clone record label > Nobody wants to read another embittered tirade about the collapse of > the market for vinyl and for paid music in general, even if it's > painfully correct. The message says the label was doing well, so to read it as a comment on how vinyl is dying or how music sales are struggling is not accurate at all, I think. I think they honestly have no direction right now and feel like they've done everything, so they'll be trying some different things for awhile. Will probably be interesting..

Yes... i agree Sending Orbs is one of hollands finest labels. I have not missed out on a single release on that label. The releases of Kettel and from Secede are pure bliss.
