(313) Boston

2009-08-11 Thread Southern Outpost
Hey all,
Heading to Boston on Wednesday for a few days, could any Boston list
members recommend any record stores, good coffee, interesting sights
that I could check out?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Patrick.

Re: (313) Serato Vs Traktor smackdown for my consumer dollars.

2009-08-11 Thread David Powers
FYI Vista is horrible but I recently installed Windows 7 on a new
laptop and it works great so far, though I haven't given it an intense
audio workout yet. (Oh, and I hear a lot of stories about Mac's
crashing and having weird problems, btw.)

Anyway, I had Serato running on my Windows XP and it did work fine; I
hope to try it on Windows 7 this week--if so I'll report back.

I have only watched them being used, but I have heard that Vista caused
problems in Serato and most people uninstalled Vista and went back to XP.  Not
sure about Vista and Traktor though.  Ask wherever you go to buy it or hit up
some other message boards.  Macs don't seem t have these problems though.  ;)

I know that a few of the bigger clubs here have a Serato set up ready to go, so
it seems to be the standard.  Not necessarily better, but just more widely used.

I will be purchasing either Serato Scratch or Traktor Scratch in a few
months along with a Windows 7 laptop.  I'm going to be getting some
hands-on time with both over the next few weeks, but wanted to see if
anyone has some strong opinions, or things I should look for in
particular.  I've heard different people swear by each, but just
trying to cover my bases and harness the power of the 313 hive-mind a
bit. This is just for a 2 turntable setup with the timecoded vinyl,
just mixing, no scratching, nothing fancy.

RE: (313) Live sets (was (313) ping)

2009-08-11 Thread 313
oops. Sense of humour too dry.

Merely suggesting Detroit as a noun and as a describing word indicated
removal of the capitalization. Sorry - only just back on the email. Not an
attack to my knowledge???

Im not familiar enough with Matt Chester's wax, but Detroit is a big city,
Im sure there's room for us both ;-|
