Re: (313) New Metroplex
Kimyon was a pretty good promoter way back in the 90s. I have no further comment. Clips? I think my only option was to download the whole thing. Did they mean to do that? O_o -- matt kane's brain http://hydrogenproject.com

His site is a triumph of design over usability. Took me a minute to even figure out how to hear the files. Not immediately overwhelmingly awesome. Like a lot of things about Derrick May, it's by no means obvious what he's got in mind, even though he's one of the most prolific talkers in the city of Detroit. If you keep saying that, you're not really reserving all comment. m50 At 2011.10.31 12:35, Kevin Kennedy wrote: kent, you are being very nice...I am proud of you. Oh, and forgot to mention that the first track is something I agreed not to identify but I think you can guess who it is ;-) On Mon, Oct 31, 2011 at 11:58 AM, Joe Marougi jmaro...@gmail.com wrote: Here's one with a really nice/new Huck remix (last track on the mix). http://soundcloud.com/roundabout-sounds/roundabouts-sound-joe Joe
Re: (313) New Metroplex
It doesn't sound like Detroit Techno. It's closer to some of the more experimental stuff at the fringes of dance music. It isn't bad, per se, it just doesn't have that immediate emotional hook. I try my own work, to try to find rhythms I find compelling and combine that with tonal material that has some emotional resonance for me personally. Whether or not I succeed with respect to others is an open question, but that is what I'm trying. In contrast there's a whole world of music out there that combines repetitive beats with what sounds to me like academic electro-acoustic music. That is not the way to get people runway-jacking on the New Dance Show, but I don't reject it out of hand. I like some of that stuff a lot -- Pansonic, the stuff on Taylor Dupree's 12K label, tim hecker... But it's not something I recognize as being anywhere close to Detroit Techno.
