It doesn't sound like Detroit Techno. It's closer to some of the more
experimental stuff at the fringes of dance music. It isn't bad, per
se, it just doesn't have that immediate emotional hook.

I try my own work, to try to find rhythms I find compelling and
combine that with tonal material that has some emotional resonance for
me personally. Whether or not I succeed with respect to others is an
open question, but that is what I'm trying.

In contrast there's a whole world of music out there that combines
repetitive beats with what sounds to me like academic electro-acoustic
music. That is not the way to get people runway-jacking on the New
Dance Show, but I don't reject it out of hand. I like some of that
stuff a lot -- Pansonic, the stuff on Taylor Dupree's 12K label, tim
hecker...

But it's not something I recognize as being anywhere close to Detroit Techno.
