agreed, but it would just be nice if instead of relentlessly and
solely flogging ones own projects all self-promoters got involved in
the discussion, and self-promoted with a dash of humility.

The list is quiet enough these days that I sure don't mind Joe's

only rarely mention what they're doing.

Re: RE: (313) Japanese site

2012-08-30 Thread Dieter Prenner
The Disk Union store for electronic/hiphop is located in Shinjuku, close to
McDonalds at the East Exit. They have a nice Detroit/Chicago selection
there. Mostly house records.

What I can highly recommend is Technique Online Store in Shibuya (200 m
from the famous crossroad). They have a lot of second hand vinyls, a great
Detroit selection and lots of bargains! Bought a lot of records there
recently :)

Lighthouse Records is not far from Technique (just across the main street).
Their stock is a bit smaller but nice finds nevertheless.

The weirdest record store I've been yet is Discland Jaro (Shibuya). It's a
basement room in a small side street. VERY tiny (2x2 meters) and packed
with records to the ceiling. They are specialized on Jazz and Soul records,
but have insane prices ($300 in average for a record).

In Kyoto I could not find any record stores for electronic music. I think
Osaka is a better place.

looks good to me, I would just swap out "all the way back" and include
the losoul remix as part of the top ten, based soley on the insane
numbers of times I've dropped that remix over the years. But that's

Last time I was there it seemed Cisco had shut, I use to think Disc Union was
the best store Ive ever been in but recently they moved the Shibuya store
around and now the techno/ house is on the 3rd floor which is much smaller and
indie/rock/metal is where the techno use to beshamebut Haqq's artwork
was still there. Because of this I felt on my last visit that Disk Union
Shimokitazawa was a better site.
Shimokitazawa has lots of cool vintage stores and record stores, you must check
out city country city its a record store in a cafésmall but ace vinyl
section.

http://blog.cdandlp.com/2011/02/city-country-city-record-shop-in-tokyo.html

If you have time check out Kyoto its 3 hours (I think) on the bullet train from
Tokyo, its so so cool.
