RE: (313) Moodyman

2005-06-15 Thread Chau, Dang

I don't recall any keyboard or mpc action from KDJ last night, it was more
Mahogani music showcase than Moodymann live.
They were selling some records there too - new Amp Fiddler, KDJ 32 33. I
think they were £15 a piece so i didn't end up picking anything up... i'll
probably be kicking myself later!

Did anyone go and see him in London last night? Ive heard a few reports from
the Glasgow gig saying that KDJ didnt go near a keyboard or MPC all night,
despite this being heavily billed for the London gig. Im going to see the
show tonight and just wondered if its going to be the same deal as Glasgow.

RE: (313) parrrisshhh (LONDON)

2005-04-29 Thread Chau, Dang
I wasn't there too late but i'd have to agree with Paul's short review ;)
it was a pretty typical Theo set if you've heard any of the sound signature
mixes, loads of eq madness!
he played a couple of new tracks he'd been working on from cdr that sounded ace
(and suprisingly polished though my ears may have deceived me it was too loud!)

Heh heh! I didn't think you were still on here Paul! That's very nice
but what and how did he play?! Anything unusual? Was it in the expected
Parrish style or did he roll-out some new tricks ... maybe I'll just try
and catch a Parrish gig soon...

I'm pretty sure it wasn't him - Abdul Haqq did the Third Earth graphics (like
the Relics cover, the Model 500 Classics cover, etc) but it was another person
who did the artwork for these postcards that Transmat put out. They had some
of the originals on show in Fat Cat for a while and I always wanted to get my
mitts on one in particular; I've got the postcards at home but haven't been
able to find them at all, and can't remember for the life of me the name of
the artist...

As I mentioned once before on this list - there used to be a website that
had videos of techno artists but is no longer in operation.
It's too bad because they had Carl Craig's Televised Green Smoke video -
which was very cool.
I'd love to see some collection on DVD of Detroit techno/house videos past

Due to a high problem of bandwidth speed, the availability of mixes became

(313) Recording from PC to MD... was RE: (313) mixer advice

2002-12-06 Thread Chau, Dang
sorry to keep this OT thread going, i'm a fan of my portable MD and thought
Sony's NetMD stuff was pants but found a cool (and cheap!) product that allows
you to get ripped/downloaded/streaming audio from your PC to MD without having
to upgrade your MD

an aussie company xitel produces a USB device allowing you to record from your
PC direct to your mindisc recorder and its compatible with all recording decks.
You plug it in, load up the audio files you want to record from your player of
choice and hit record. i think the MDPort-DG2 sells for about $50 USD, and Sony
sell their products rebadged at an inflated price too!
http://www.xitel.com/

cheers
Dang (not a sales rep for xitel)

- Original Message -

One cautionary word of advice though. If you hope to record to
  minidisc,
then dump the song into NetMD, this will not work b/c of copy
  protection
measures, so you actually need to do it analogue-style. I was a bit
  disappointed by that.

And that is precisely when and where Sony dropped the ball on MD.
 Shame, really.

Especially since this is completely unclear until after you make the
purchase (if you are an idiot electronics impulse shopper like myself
anyway).

Hi all,

I think you have seen these, the Planet E re-presses with blue-ish labels
(pictures of buildings) and mostly on coloured vinyl (blue) that came out
around 92-93.

I know 2 of 'em:

Quadrant (Original Release 6, blue vinyl)
Piece (Original Release 3, kind of clear vinyl)

So, what are the others? And how many were pressed in these series?

TIA

are you happy with the people around you ... then he goes on t say all

I don't recognise the second one, but the first track is the B-Side of

certainly sounds like a Maurizio production but I wouldn't like to

Subject: [313] Pump Up The Volume? - UK tv-special - what happened?

Hey folks...

A few months back there was some discussion about this program which aired
on UK television... all about house/techno, electronic music roots, etc.

It was very informative and I was able to obtain a copy THE FIRST EPISODE
in mpeg format.

One of the list-members was supposedly mailing a copy of subsequent
segments on videocassette [in PAL format, I might add] to someone in the US
for encoding on some website or something... for encoding.

Well... it doesn't seem like it ever appeared online [afaik]... If it did,
great.. someone please e-mail me and put me in my place. =)

IF not, I'd really like to get ahold of a dub of the original -- I found a
place here where I am locally that will do the PAL -- NTSC conversion for
very cheap. I'd also be willing to provide copies to N. American [read:
NTSC] listmembers for a nominal fee.

So, can someone help me spread the love here?

./peter
