Re: (313) shanghai....any info?

2006-11-17 Thread Collin Chen

HI fab,

I have been there a couple of times for work. I have not found any record
shops. The clubs there do not play techno maybe some house music. I think
Mike Grant, Laurent Garnier might have played there before but i do not
remember which clubs are they.

It is just dodgy pubs for tourists but not for music purveryors in Shanghai.
There might be an underground music scene there but i have not got in touch
with like minded people there yet.

Sorry for the off topic post, but I was wondering if anyone had any
opinions
on these two mixers. I'm undecided whether to go for Pioneer DJM 500 with
built in FX, or the Allen Heath Xone:32 which I've heard is more durable
and has a much better sound.
If anyone has used either of these and has any advice before I go and
check
them out, it would be appreciated.
 Please reply off list.

HI Martin and all,

Does anyone on this list have any info on this Spanish dj Oscar Mulero?
Any dj-sets available?

oo-- He just played Asia in March and he rocks. Do check him out if you
could. You can hear his mixed set on www.oscarmulero.com or the kobayashi
records website. He is from Madrid and he just released 2 releases on his
own label Warm Up Recordings and one on Kobayashi Records. If you are into
minimal techno records, this is one of the artistes you have to watch out
for. The techno matador from Spain!!

Have a nice week and keep in touch.

HI Cyclone and all,

There was a mix-CD in 1998 that someone at Hardware talked me into buying -
it was good, entitled About Discipline Education and with tracks by Mills,
Ho, Surgeon and the like. Actually I bought it to get the Mills track
Cyclone, so nice that Jeff and Technasia are writing songs about me. ;)

oo-- He has one more mixed CD released late last year called Era on
Rxxistance Records, Madrid which is better than the earlier one released on
So Dens Records. Have fun!

Hi Emma,

my name's Emma Kelly, I'm a masters student from Auckland University, NZ.
I'm writing my thesis this year on location, identity and dance music
(primarily techno) in Auckland and Detroit, and am currently looking for
interview subjects.
I'm going to be in Detroit for the Electronic Music Festival as well as
visiting NY and Chicago late may early june and would really like to do some
interviews with techno supporters. Preferably those who DJ, produce or
promote, but die hard fans are always helpful too.
If you'd prefer, I'm also doing interviews via email and would really
appreciate the chance to interview some of you.
So if you're interested please contact me ASAP.

oo-- How about a NZ techno stage to showcase some proper techno from that
part of the world like Micronism/Denver McCarthy and Clone??? That will be
ace!!

Have a nice week ahead! I wish i could make it to DEMF this year but
See you guys if you are going to Sonar

(no one mixes Tom Jones like that these days).

See you all down the front for Mills, Hawtin, Rachmad et al.

Sonar 2001 313 listers meetup and Groundzero release help

2001-02-28 Thread COLLIN CHEN
Hey all,

Greetings to one and all from Singapore!!!

I don't think i could make my way to DEMF this year again due to very high
flight cost, high hotel rates and day job work schedules. I guess i could
spare time for Sonar 2001 instead. Anybody on the list going for that? Want
to meet for some mad vinyl raid on the Barcelona record shops?

Oh yes i will be making a vist to Club 69 in Paisley and House of God in
Birmingham (hopefully Surgeon will be on that weekend) after Sonar. Anybody
up for that?? Probably a visit to Voodoo as well if everything fits in
nicely though. Or to La Real after Sonar will be mad as well ANy takers
on this mad techno overload weekend???

By the way i have given up on hunting for the Groundzero 001 release,
anybody has a spare copy of that to sell? It is nightmare finding such gems
here in bloody Singapore.

Have a nice week ahead and keep in touch!

Hi Jose,

I will go to Scotland next month,I would like know
any info about the club 69,where is Paisley ? near of
Glasgow?
I read that Mike Banks played the piano in Club 69,
is a true?

It is the club you have to go while you are in Glasgow. It gives you a new
meaning to techno music. I guess it will be good for you to go to Rub-A-Dub
Records to check with the nice people behind the counters if there is Club
69 on that weekend during the day time. THey have a bus running from Glasgow
to the venue and back. So be sure to make that stop and you will remember it
for a long long time. Do say hi to Martin, Wilba , Barrie and the rest of
the crew. I hope i will have the time to check out Club 69 when i am up
there end of june or early July after Sonar 2001.

HI Bart,

Greetings from SIngapore

I really would like to know what this record is:

The lyrics (vocoder like) goes like:

???
I also like to freak,
every night,
I turn you on

I am after this record as well. It is very very very hard to get hold of
here in SIngapore and the shops cannot even bring in one copy of this wicked
record. It is 'Automatic Freak' by Semblance Factor on Tension Records. Have
fun looking for it!

Re: (313) Discographies

2000-05-03 Thread COLLIN CHEN
Hey Tim and all,

Greetings from Singapore!

Talking of second albums, heard from Russ Gabriel that he has finally
finished the follow-up to the inspired Voltage Control. I'd like to take a
straw-poll of Ferox fans on the list (and GPR for that matter). How many of
you actually got to hear this brilliant piece of work. And how many of you
have been eagerly awaiting a second album from him over the last five years?

I have been eagerly waiting for his followup release to that for
bloody ages. I have been trying to get hold of every single release from
GPR. They are ow defunct but i must say they did release some awesome techno
records back then like the 7th Plain releases that are timeless recordings
by Luke Slater!

Well i think we miss those wonderful articles by you on Generator
was it back in 1994. I must say it is the better techno mags back then
besides Jockey Slut back then till probably Magic Feet came on and carried
on the techno flag flying in Bligthy. Days of 93 to 05 were spent reading
such mags and going out to Orbit and Back to Basics where they put on some
awesome parties!!

As for Brighter Daze, yes I have to confess that I am deep in the workings
of it right now. What line will it take? Well, it won't be the Generation
Ecstasy/Energy Flash style of cultural discourse and, regrettably, since
Kodwo Eshun is a far greater theorist than me it won't be Brighter Than The
Sun. But for those who read my Kraftwerk book or The Rough Guide To Techno
there are some pointers to be had there. But hey! - it ain't finished yet
so those who are quick with some feedback can enjoy some vicarious input at
the usual address. What I really want for Xmas is a book (and some more
records) by Tom Churchill ...

I hope to find a copy of your new book in Borders tomorrow. Hmm i
have not bought anything on Headspace or by Tim Churchill since HS 004. Kind
of clueless at the moment of things. Got to sort something out soon.

Have a nice weekend ahead and keep in touch!!!

Collin
