Adam Beyer, Ellen Allien, and Carlos Souffront have all taken a turn in
ripping my legs to shreds, or at least had the intent, I'm sure.

There is something to be said for that.

 Terrence Parker
 Roy Davis JR
 Derrick Carter
 Minx
 Theo Parrish

 that'd do it for me.

Well i don't think you will ever hear a new Joy Division track because Ian
Curtis is dead for more then 20 years now :)

Well it´s not that i would like to compare Moby
to Joy Division (no way!!) but i thought that the
beginning of the track sounded like Joy Division IMHO.
Moby takes this as a compliment i read on his website
today because he´s hughe fan of JD and New Order...
When he was invited to play ´ceremony´ with them last year
he was the most happiest man in the universe:)

Re: [313] DEMF sets that you where impressed with

2002-05-29 Thread Cowgirl
I had a hell of a time at the Tronic Treatment party last night.

I danced to marco carolas/adam beyer's entire set. I think they were trying
to kill me. I think that would be the second best way to die, you can use
your imagination on the first.

was anyone else there? what did you think? I can't believe there were as
few people there as there was...but I imagine a lot of people had to work
this morning.

I also had an amazing time at the Cannonball party this weekend...can anyone
tell me who it was who played hot on the heels of love by throbbing
gristle? My night was kind of mashed together and I can't remember which
damn set it was...

and to those of you who were at Herbert...whoa! I love that little jumping
beautiful man...I guess the drunk
chick who was yelling at him throughout the set liked him too.

I guess I could say a million things about the other artists I saw but, I'd
go on for about 5 pages.

hot beats, weird sounds.

I was also able to record the Advent's whole set on my Digit

i'd love to see this unfortunately i missed it.
my highlights were steve rachmad and marco carola on saturday and then
 stewart walker on sunday.
everytime stewart had a drink of water everyone cheered : )
the pemf afterparty on saturday was really cool, more luomo sounding stuff
than vladislav and rex played some harder stuff at the end that was great.
i wasn't too impressed on monday, but i did catch kaku at one of the
smaller

I heard a rumour that he was behind the DFA 'Microstructural

label)
earlier this year. It's a great record - three beautiful tracks of
minimal,
melodic Detroit hosue. It certainly sounds like it could be him but
like I
say it was just a rumour I heard...

http://www.surveillancerecordings.com/ is the cryptic website (links
are
  hidden in the left column)...

any reviews on randy hancock - d-struct on surveillance (no 3) ?

Just to confuse matters further, I think you're talking about a different
label - which is also called 'Surveillance' and also putting out techno! I
haven't heard the releases on the other label, just the DFA 12...

 Cheers,

 Tom

I don't know.

I love techno.

I love electro.

And, some of it sounds really great together. Ms. Kitten, Felix da
Housecat, Adult, Egyptian Lover...sure the label seems ill fitting, but I
also know people who will sit awake a whole night arguing the finer nuances
of the 19,000 genres of techno. I'd rather dance.

I believe that Adam Miller's comment was incendiary, to say the least, and I
most definitely disagree with it, but some reporter's desire to write the
cultural and musical equivalent of a flashy Cosmopolitan article just isn't
enough to make me lash out.

I know that my love of electronic music stemmed directly from my research
into the history of computing in school...Fleetwood Mac was kick ass and
all, but it really caused a lot of cognitive dissonance when I was drooling
over pictures of ENIACs and Manchester Marks. I was also able to come to
terms with the fact that one of the reasons I go for more, well what I
callMaximal (as opposed to minimal) techno was because I like sick big
nasty honkin mainframes. That's not to say I'm not still in therapy.

I like being nerdy...bring it on.

I also like listening to techno in my spaceship.

20 days 'til my flight to Detroit and counting,

p.s. if for any reason you care:

My top 1 list:

Tok Tok vs. Soffy O Missy Queen Must Die remixes, especially the Smash TV

pretty techno.

when things are neative, they are

trying to avoid it - don´t make them better

this is about culture - negativity is a part of it -

so it´s good to keep a focus on things like this one too

Re: [313] whats on now

2002-04-23 Thread Cowgirl
I'm listening to samples of the new zok zok vs. zoffy z (tok tok vs. soffy
o)

god, all I really need is some leg warmers and frosted hair at this point.

guess I should have warned the gentleman asking about electro that I'm a
sick little 80's pop princess with no shame...

kind of OT- for those of you who have heard Herbert's remixes- Secondhand
Sounds is anyone as addicted to it as I am? it goes great with after dinner
drinks.

Harry the Bastard presents Club H and Stacey Pullen's DJ Kicks CD - tons
of great older tracks on both. I'd love to blend these two CDs into one
massive pull on the ol' heart strings!

[313] Re:[313] who are the good guys was Moody DJs - Dave Clarke/Surgeon

2002-04-20 Thread Cowgirl
I never talked to her, but the dj who seemed like the most fun behind the
decks in my experiences was Ellen Allien...

it didn't hurt that her set almost made me pass out.

Definitely disappointed with the lack of live stuff too...and still no
Kraftwerk or Aphex...oh well, not surprised but disenchanted.

 Peace,
 Alex

the biggest disappointment to me is that there doesnt seem to be much live
stuff this year. they said in that detroit news article that they wanted
to
keep people dancing all day this time, i guess they assume dj's are better
at this...personally i just think daylight keeps people from dancing as
much...and i really like checking out live stuff during the day, nice
 atmosphere and mood, to me..
 oh well..still pumped!
