RE: [313] Craving some old acid house

2001-01-29 Thread Dan Balis
Ask James Bucknell, he's on this list. Great dj with very deep crates for
most things, but in particular, early Chicago and acid. Suspect he's got a
CD of this sorta thing already made.

Sorry James! Don't mean to blow your horn..

Anyone know where I can get a GOOD mix tape of some older acid house and
chicago jacky type tracks? I don't have much to listen to and would like a
good mix of it, while simultaneously attempting the feat of avoiding to much
cheese. Any suggestions?

Re: [313] Chicago/Detroit/France

Yann Fontaine did a cool 12 on Brique Rouge (#7) -- far from what you
typically associate w/ French house...

Cyclone Wehner wrote:

Actually that is just one of many names I didn't list. He namechecks Carl
Craig as an influence big time. His music is left of centre! 313-friendly
for sure. The recent Adore LP spans electro through to tech-house. He is in
Australia this month with his label boss, Gilb-R for a mini DJ tour.

I interviewed I:Cube and he was saying how a lot of really interesting
French electronic music came out in the 60s and 70s that no one really knows
about and he picks it up in second hand stores. That's what got me thinking.

Didn't Carl Craig and Richie Hawtin remix Motorbass too?

Also if you like hip-hop, check out MC Solaar's stuff as his work is really
slick, cool stuff, on the disco tip. It doesn't matter if you can't
understand it. French is easy on the ears.

No mention of I:Cube? They've been on a rather diverse role for quite some
 time now. Lovely deep stuff.

(OT) FS: TR-808 (NYC area preferred)

2000-07-03 Thread Dan Balis
Selling a TR-808 in good/very good condition...Recently repaired/tuned
up...modded by the same aussie responsible for the Devilfish 303
sound...mods include extra sequence memory and ability to add noise to clap
and snare, etc,...

Much prefer NYC pickup!!

Thanks,

Dan

Way OT! NYC only (FREE rack unit)

2000-06-09 Thread Dan Balis
Sorry to clutter up the list with this sort of thing but I'm rearranging my apt
and no longer have any need for a SKB gig rig rack unit..If you can pick it
up in Brooklyn, it's yours...

here's a blurb on it from a catalog:

Gig Rig

This is an amazing new innovation from SKB - 20
spaces of
rack mount space in a protected, fold-out,
portable
environment! Modular recessed hinges and latches
allow for
access from front, top and rear! Secret latched
door in rear
for easy rolling out of cables for remote
locations. Built-in grill
for ventilation. Rugged front and rear wheel
assembly for easy
transport. Handy side handles. Rack screws
included. Comes
 fully assembled.

(it's in perfect condition...and free!)

thanks,

dan
