He'd dropped some really great deep tracks, speak on the microphone and everyone had a great time. This one track, he played i have no idea what it is but it was so very deep ... i captured it on video on my camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8EzVsdaJBg [this will also give you an idea of how everyone was also dancing around] Carl played at Demon nights last night. Unfort he was BAD in that it was more of a uplifting NY sound with no SOUL.. i think Dang spent the nite getting him to play this one track. Ok it was fun but I've seen him funk it up big time and tonight unfort was not it. It ws probably the crowd of 18 year olds or whatever. :( I have come to the realisation that I prefer the relatively empty venue and a DJ that is uncompromising (eg Jeff, Juan, Moodymann) rather than a full venue and bad music. cheers m
Re: (313) Some new-ish records
Thanks for the update Robin. It is always nice if someone points out some possibly interesting records. Below some of my favourite releases for this moment. I am not that good at describing music, so i`ll just stick to naming them. Jeff Samuel - Lost http://www.discogs.com/release/952466 Alton Miller - Souls Like Mine http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=36039 B12 - Slope http://www.discogs.com/release/981763 Comtron - Follow The Money http://www.discogs.com/release/956063 Mike Shannon - Tactile Green EP http://www.discogs.com/release/951133 Sleeparchive - Papercup http://www.discogs.com/release/959138 Gr, Peter On 6/19/07, robin [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Quite a few new bits out over the last month or so and I haven't had chance to write about them. Before some of you shout 'late!' :), some of this is a few weeks old, some from last week or so. Keith Worthy - She Loves Me Not - Aesthetic Audio Follow up to Emotional Content. BeatTheBeatUp starts as a beat track but builds the depth as it progresses. The title track on the flip is a lovely rolling deephouse number but the other side steals it for me. Lerosa - Ruski - Real Soon Nice 12 from Real Soon, following in a similar vein to the Juju and Jordash 12 on the label. Midway between broken beat and beatdown in vibe it's another great 12 from this label. Juju Jordash - Blue Plates - Real Soon Two slow weird organic tracks. Check. Herb LF - Miles - Farside Miles (SoulPhiction Mix) is a lovely lilting piano based track, the pick of the 12 for me. Keith Worthy/KSoulRa.H/Patrice Scott - Underground Anthems Vol.1 - Sistrum Another great 12 from Sistrum, this time split with two artists other than Patrice. Keith Worthy here with an acidic take on his usual sound. KSoul and Ra.H and label owner offering up two more rough deep tracks. If you've not got any tracks by these guys this 12 is a great place to start. Aroy Dee - Lies - MOS 'Jive' is the track for me on here. The Comtron voiced 'Evil' dropping more of a Chicago house vibe. Quality. Rick Wade - Shamballa - Yore l love Rick's stuff, and this is a solid 12 but I'd like to hear him push his sound a little. That said, 'Shamballa' is a cracking track. Deetron ft. DJ Bone - Life's Soundtrack - Music Man RadioSlave remix is the mix that works for me. Very C2 in flavour but I love the moodyness of Bone's spoken vocal. There's a Redshape mix of this too but it doesn't grab me as much as his other output. KSoulRa.H - Doser004 - Morphine Records OK so their sound is close to that of Omar S but who cares if it works this well? Kelley Polar - Chrysanthemum EP - Environ Magic Tim mix of Rosenband is the standout. I find some of the KP stuff a little twee but this mix (by the label owner?) works for me. Trusme - What Tony Wants - StiLove4TheMusic Not quite up with his awesome 1st 12 but still a nice edit/cutup 12. More summery this time. Check. Omar S - Grandson of Techno008 - FXHE With some percussion input from Theo Parrish another minimal (not mnml) house monster from AOS. He really pushes the loose unsynced approach here. Awesome. robin...

But... as I actually listened to it out of context, just as a piece of music in it's own right, I couldn't help but feel it sounds like just another slice of hep swingin' cocktail-lounge jazzssszz. I'd invite you to just listen without prejudice to this mix of his tracks, but here's my take on what he does: While techno in general tends to gravitate to the analog/warm/minimal end of the genre pool (debatable I know, but let's go with it for now), Yasushi goes to extremes in a completely different direction. His music emphasizes the upper end of human hearing -- his sounds are crisp and piercing, and he's not afraid to get chaotic. Still, when he finds a groove it comes embroidered with a romantically lush harmonic flow. There are few people making electronic music now that I'd categorize as unique, but Yasushi Miura inhabits a musical universe all his own. Re: (313) Jeff Mills - One Man Spaceship
To me, this album was one of the highs of 2006. The sounds actually reminded me to space and space travel. From this album, Mills` love for old science fiction movies becomes very clear. The theme, plus the fact he really makes his machines sing, make this a top album. It is a bit frustrating however that a lot of people won't hear this record. And given that Mr Mills isn't an artist I think that needs return on these CD sales given his large DJ fees, it's a peculiar dichotomy because in today's climate a shop selling this CD online will have their stock bought up by collectors who then sell it on. I guess because it's on CD, it only exacerbates p2p sharing. For all the latest news and comment visit telegraph.co.uk, the UK's most visited quality newspaper website. Re: RE: (313) Strange DJ Requests/Happenings
My strangest request was if I could play Titt'n - Ben je geil of wil je een koekje? (Are you horny of do you want a cookie?). A dutch carnavalesk gimmick track. And no, she was not joking. Still can`t believe it. PS: The track would probably be nicer if there was a ghetto-tech version Peter On 1/4/07, Nick Hardie [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On 04/01/07, Carlos de Brito [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: another classic: two vodka red bull, please! shortly before being handed the coats...

Tips for detroit based / 313 related netlabels are very welcome! 3: Documentaries / videos on techno. I saw some this year trough soulseek (the hawtin lecture at immedia) and youtube. 4: The octex liveset posted on november 25. (313) London 21 - 24 december
Hi list, I will be in London from 21 till 24th of december for some site-seeing and a bit of christmas-shopping with my girlfriend. Which records shops could you recommend me for doing MY christmas shopping? (I just want to make sure I get something I really want this christmas, so I`ll just drag her to those record shops.) Thanks (from this lurker), Peter

Re: (313) Ableton DJ Mix
Since my last post did came trough, i want to give this one another try: A bit of a late reply, but I finally re-found the link I wanted to post. This: http://www.idiom.com/~zilla/Work/VisualIDs/visualids.html is what you (Emiliano Zani) want. Too bad there is no software available that can do this! This is definately something to look out for in the future. Peter On 7/28/06, P.A. Platikman - Closer was his las reasonable piece of work, but far from outstanding. He could release an edit of Berlin djs farting now and that would never change. - Original Message - From: Stoddard, Kamal [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@Hyperreal.Org 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Thursday, August 24, 2006 4:54 PM Subject: RE: (313) Hawtin Deeetroit keeps on making it and hawtin keeps on takin it!
