Was a little skeptical at first when reading the episode summary, but it
actually turned out to be a great podcast covering the Berlin Detroit
techno connection.

Yeah, he was pretty deep into Chicago & Detroit music, I believe he grew up
in Chicago, was pretty close to Ron Trent and was DJ'ing quite early in the
piece, well before his career in fashion. From what it sounds like, he had
quite a varied and excellent taste in musics.

There is a good interview with him via RA Exchange which goes into his
musical past: https://ra.co/exchange/562

New Axis Records Site

2017-01-30 Thread Patrick Wacher
Just noticed that Axis has updated their site with a whole bunch of new
stuff. Enjoying the radio show on there called 'Outer Limits' which is
showcasing a whole bunch of back catalog. Alot of tracks I haven't heard
before, nice way to catch up with Jeff's work.

Thanks,

Ghostly brings back 'Techno Rebels' T-shirts for Dan Sicko scholarship

Posted By Lee DeVito on Wed, May 20, 2015 at 1:48 PM

Among the many artifacts on display at Exhibit 3000 — Underground
Resistance's secret techno museum in Detroit — is a book enclosed in
a glass case called Techno Rebels: The Renegades of Electronic Funk
by journalist Dan Sicko. Our tour guide for the day gave the book
props, saying he felt it accurately captured the essence and told the
story of Detroit techno in a way few other books have.

Sicko died in 2011 at the age of 42, having battled ocular melanoma
since being diagnosed in 2008. Shortly after, Ghostly adapted his
book title into a Detroit Renegade of Electronic Funk limited run
T-shirt with all proceeds going to help raise money for Sicko's
 family.

Fours years later, the Detroit Sound Conservancy has launched a
campaign to create a special music journalism scholarship in Sicko's
name, and Ghostly is bringing back the T-shirt to help raise funds.
The shirt is now offered in black and indigo, and proceeds from all
online sales will go directly to DSC.

Head over to Ghostly's store to grab one, or WSU Press to pick up a
copy of the book. Check out MT's original review of the book here.

The album seems to be, sonically, a good follow on to Mind Body, more on
the tech-funk tip as apposed to the Deep Space style techno. Also it seems
he even goes back to his Cybotron days with The Groove, guitar solos for
all!

dad and all, that stuff is tough! P.

Thought someone might care that Stingray is playing Thursday at F8 in
SF and friday Omar S and Aaron Fit Siegal are playing at the same
spot. Here's a nice Stringray mix with some weirdo named the
Sentinel's track featured in it.

(313) UR in Sydney, 1993.

2014-04-29 Thread Patrick Wacher
Got forwarded this link of a slideshow of a party in Sydney, 1993, which was
URs first time in Australia.

Was at a venue called Grafitti Hall of Fame, which doubled as a meat packing
plant during the day.

To save you the gurners, UR pics start at 14mins. At that point in time it was
Mike, Alan T1000 Rob Hood. Slideshow also has pics of UR in Redfern, a
predominantly Aboriginal neighborhood in inner Sydney.

Best to mute the sound, pretty cruddy musics and enjoy.

I haven't found myself in the pics yet, but I don't really want to. ;)

(313) New Metroplex

2014-04-28 Thread Patrick Wacher
I saw a new Metroplex pop up on Rush Hour:

Was pleasantly surprised to see the label is back with a couple of great
tracks from Population One.

Had no idea Juan was reviving it, any further details around it's relaunch?

Yeah. Hopefully more information will be forthcoming in the days leading up to movement. I'm wondering out loud if the news of this release got buried in the announcement of Mr. Dixon's pending retirement from the dance music game? Full disclosure, I'm being selfish, I want more quality music from all that are either involved, or yet to be involved with this wonderful thing we call techno.
Viva la Metroplex!
