(313) [Detroit] Goodnight Comrade w/Keith Tucker - Tonight, Friday 2nd September 2005
Denis Baldwin Jr - friend to many, acquaintence to all. You've heard the rumors, and it's true - he's moving to Florida. We're not exactly sure why.. but he's going, and we're sending him off properly. GOODNIGHT COMRADE a farewell to a friend http://sneak.datavibe.net/misc/flyers/20050902-goodnight-comrade Friday, 2nd September, 2005 CE 10PM-10AM, free At the Focus Media Bunker: 440 E. Lafayette (above Niki's Pizza and the Bouzouki) Detroit, Michigan (877) 748-3467 (my (sneak's) cell for directions or assistance) This evening, for your listening pleasure, we have worked quite dilligently to arrange for the following lineup: * Keith Tucker ** Aux88/Puzzlebox * Benji Hayes ** Focus Media * Darkcube ** Detroit Techno Militia * Dethlab ** DoyleBethany * [EMAIL PROTECTED] ** hey, that's me * 'stos ** Fistclencher Records (also, if you're reading this via 313kids, your friendly neighborhood list admin!) * T. Linder ** Detroit Techno Militia I've spent the whole day doing the usual party preparation thing - moving huge cabinets filled with gigantic speakers about from place to place, connecting large rubbery cables from oversized amplifiers to said cabinets, buying vast reserves of liquor and that weird 7.3% canadian beer, disposable plastic cups, ice, et cetera, and generally freaking out. Much effort is being expended to ensure that everyone that attends has as much fun as we are by doing all of this. Additionally, we strongly recommend that before you come to be assaulted by the waves of bass eminating from our WTF Soundsystem, that you go and visit our friends Derek Plaslaiko and Ryan Elliott over at Vault at Oslo this same evening put together by those fine gentlemen at Ghostly. That's going to be awesome too and we're all sad we can't be in two places at once. I'm going to bed because tomorrow is going to kill us all. See you there. Love, -j -- Rev. Most isopropanol sold in the states is already diluted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isopropanol I would be careful, though, as I can neither confirm nor deny whether isopropanol will dissolve PVC. Most web sites suggest a similar formula (some even up t1o 1: mixtures of isopropanol and distilled water), but personally I'm wary. Any records I've had that have become super-dirty I've just cleaned using cold tap water and fingers (or a soft toothbrush, in extreme cases), followed by shaking and/or paper toweling them dry, and a once-over with a dry record cleaning tool to pick out any paper towel dust. - -j - -- - Rev. Just a thought. I came up with the exact same idea on Monday, after being hassled for the umpteenth time by one of the same dozen bums that's ALWAYS wandering around downtown. Forget the $500k it'd bring to the funding... the real benefit would be keeping out the bums. This will, of course, never happen, because the only way that the festival is the largest anything in the world is with the free qualifier, and we all know that they'll never let that one die. -j -- Rev. Technically, even someone who just carries in their DAT and hits play and stands there staring out at the crowd is 'performing'. I'm not going to take sides in the it's all about the music debate, but don't say that someone who stands motionless and stares unblinkingly at a laptop for an hour is any less of a performer than the most visible and energetic of trick djs. They're certainly not as -good- of a performer, but they are covered equally by the definition of the word. I think that this would be a non-issue if people who do, for example, laptop PAs, projected their video output on a screen behind them so you can see what they're doing. It's a lot more difficult giving the crowd something to look at if you're not doing something on a flat horizontal surface. Most performers who don't play records forget this all too often. Now for my personal opinion: Do you have 10kW of sound in your basement? How about a few hundred people? Yeah, I didn't think so. Give me 'Play' on the DAT out in a condusive environment any day over armchair listening. -j -- Rev.
