RE: (313) jeff samuals review/gear question (fwd)
Hey all. Jeff Samuel wanted me to forward his response to the reviewer of his SF performance since he isn't subscribed to the list. Here you have it. --- Tom Butcher -- Forwarded message -- Date: Mon, 8 Nov 2004 14:19:16 -0800 From: Jeff Samuel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: (313) jeff samuals review/gear question (fwd) Hi There, A friend forwarded this review to me so I thought I'd make a short response. While I don't have a problem with someone finding my set boring, I do feel the need to address the 'lazy DJ' issue. When I approached the decks the master fader on the mixer was all the way up with the level completely red, the channel levels equally hot, and the Mackie monitor to my right blown out. This left me with the tiny monitor to my left that was already clipping. Given the fact that this was an art gallery with no 'sound guy', I couldn't really have turned the levels down and turned the house sound up. So, I had to wing it. I was often spending too much time trying to hear myself to appear 'less lazy'. It is true that one track did run out in the process though the next beatmatched record was brought in before the next measure had even run out. But hey, you can't win em all. The truth is that I don't tour Europe and play like that, because these conditions do not present themselves in Europe. In any case, I thank you for coming and dancing (footloose indeed!). There's a partial mix up on my site that is more typical of what I like to do with a couple of turntables. All the best, Jeff SamUEL http://jeffsamuel.com
Re: (313) Sonar anyone?
Anyway i'm wondering now all the fuss of movement is over (well soon anyway-thank god), who is going to Sonar? Couple of us Aussies going and i understand a few UK peoplz. I'll be there. Not performing, just vacationing and taking in some music and art. I need a vacation pretty bad, so I'm really looking forward to it. t --- Tom Butcher
Re: (313) Burial mixes
has anyone noticed if the kick drums on the Artists/Versions compilations sound as deep or kicks as hard as they do on the 10s? I'm kind of picky, so listen carefully if you can and tell me what you think. One of those guys' strong contributions to the world of dance music is world-class mastering to vinyl. No doubt this can contribute to what you say you hear, though I haven't done a comparison myself. Didn't they sell the mastering business recently? Too bad... t --- Tom Butcher
Re: (313) force inc
What was the last record out on Force Inc? I haven't seen a new one for ages (though I haven't been looking too hard)... Will this include Force Tracks and the other one too do u think? I'm not sure if the full-length Baby Ford album ever made it out. If not, it would be his single Built In. Before that was K-Led's stuff, and before that was my full length Codebase record and remix EP. --- Tom Butcher
Re: (313) looking for K-Led record (was shot in the dark)
Has K-Led done anything else? I looked around but couldn't find anything - if it is the first release - wha! Can't wait to hear future stuff. Check out the bio on the Force site: http://www.force-inc.net/fim/artists/k-led/k-led_2.html --- Tom Butcher Codebase / x09Music www.x09music.com/codebase
Re: [313] kraftwerk bookies?
just saw at amazon 2 books about kraftwerk one by a a guy called bussy and the other by a guy called barr. did any of you got to read this books? r they any good? Tim Barr's book is superb - he's one of the UK's finest electronic music journalists without a doubt and I highly recommend his Kraftwerk book... Agreed. I've read them both, and I think the Barr test is better. You can also find 'I Was a Robot' by Karl Bartos, which is nice for the full-color photos. --- Tom Butcher - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] vladislav delay?
BTW, was anybody else seriously dissapointed by this release? This performance is definitely not entain quality. I wasn't-- remember that is a recording of a live performance rather than a studio recording. I can see how it might disappoint some, but to me it stands up next to his other stuff. My favorite is still the Luomo record, though. --- Tom Butcher - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
