(313) Playing In China or anywhere in asia besides Japan

2009-09-17 Thread chenkc

HI all,

I guess the question is that the organiser in China have to the guts
or money to pay for the services of a DJ to bring him out to play there.

I would love to start a techno night here in Singapore. People hardly
recognise a techno night here in Singapore. I have occasions lost
loads of money bring DJs to play techno here in Singapore back in late
1990's. Thinking back, it was worth the experience.

I would want to do it again if i can be guaranteed i can recove my
cost in doing a techno night bringing the quality acts here to
Singapore to play and educate the younger generation on techno music.
Still toying seriously with that idea forking out my hard earned money
to make that a reality.

Sometimes i am just thinking whether it is worth it or just take a
holiday and see the acts i want to see in Europe, US or Japan during
my vacations.

A very big choice to make and an even bigger commitment to the pcoket
with all the flight, fees, accomodation.

Collin Chen

HI all

Fumiya just put a new album named Unknown 3. It is more on the minimal
side of music. He has a new mixed CD called Mur Mur where he did a
good selection of minimal techno. There was a DVD for that as well.

You can check on Fumiya at his website www.fumiyatanaka.com

he puts out releases on Op.disc as well.

Enjoy his music. Not club friendly but forward thinking.

The last sets I heard of his in London were pretty dire though, and I
haven't heard any new production since the album he did about 8 years ago -
are there any specific releases since then worth checking out?

 Hey,

I've just been offered a residency at an art/music space called Modulate
in Birmingham (http://www.modulate.org.uk). I'll be there from Apirl to
July. I'm wondering what the Birmingham techno scene is like - what
clubs to check out but also (and preferable) some more underground-like
contacts, myspace accounts to hit up for secret/private gigs, that sort
 of thing...

Also contacts with promoters or producers/DJs in the city - there's a
chance I'll be putting some gigs on while I'm there.

 Any info much appreciated.

I recently moved back to the US, and pulled a bunch of records out of

What I'm left with is a stack of records that have a pretty serious mold

to no avail, so i turn to YOU...

 Description:
4 tracks. 3 hard, angular tech; typical
early SH release [I don't care about these]

 1 ambient piece (#2/inner track)
[this is the one I need]
 ^^
 long=5 min+... a zylophone-like motif of 4 16th-notes rolls eternally down
the minor key's octave from p1 to p5. it fades in-out of a mimicking fat
synth bassline: slightly out-of tempo so their momentum phases to fro
(+ making it hard to beatmatch).

It all builds slowly. Pulsing from underneath, a pink noise generator
rages against its imprisonment behind compression-stuttered ironwork
circuitry; but the fury demands expression.

As if driven mad by the relentless, mis-aligned sad insistence of the
instruments, this fettered noisy wraith hemorrhages its confinement with
tortured determination. It screeches open a flanged filter, heavy with the
excruciating tension built of a simple 4-min-long sweep upward into the

until BANG! the inexorable implosion rips apar tyour dancefloor. tatters
of a trance the shuffle of feet (along with the appreciative whoop
hollar) tread the deafening emptiness ofa chilly wind billowing from your
speakers and the lonely ghosts of synth-pads-past, fraught petulant,
 questioning their existence...

I'm currently using this to construct a soundtrack for a modern dance
choreographer. My melodrama above reveals our comittment of concept
sound. (The dancer is ready to sick 4 big drag queens on my ass... ) This
is important immediate. I have mere days to replace the song finish
the recording. I will buy vinyl off anyone willing to sell; otherwise,
I'll be content appreciative for a

Well, it's that time of year again - inspired by Tristan getting the ball
rolling, here's some of the records that have stood out for me this year.
It's been a particularly good year for techno I think - even though all the
little labels are selling very low numbers, the quality is better than ever.
Loads of new talent coming through, lots of old favourites keeping the
quality high, and lots of styles and sounds merging.

 30 singles:
Dan Curtin - Autonomic Groove (Down Low)
Aroy Dee - The Planets (NWAQ)
Claro Intelecto - Peace Of Mind (Ai Records)
Cesario Evora - Angola [Carl Craig mix] (BMG)
 Pastamusik - Charmin (Pastamusik)
Rick Wilhite - Ruby Nights [Gilb-R mix] (Third Ear)
Strand - Pigeon Toed Orange Peel (Tactile)
Various - Better By Design/Electron Music (Iridite)
 Needs - Reminiscence (Clairaudience)
Pusch '79 - Glowing Cat (Clone)
 Pitman/Wilhite/Dixon/Parrish - All Over (3 Chairs)
Theo Parrish - Natural Aspirations (Sound Signature)
 Lusine - Push EP (Ghostly)
Titonton Duvante - Raunchy EP (Project)
Andres - Last Call For Alcohol (Mahogani)
 V-Phorms - Fragments (Native)
CiM - Noki Bay (Ann Aimee)
Rene Lowe Paul St Hilaire - Faith (False Tuned)
Nutmeg w/ Face - State of Mind (Neroli)
Kaidi Tatham Dego - Puzzled (2000 Black)
The Age Of Selfishness - Wakako'ka [dub] (Visions Inc)
Pepe Bradock w/ Michelle Weeks - Distorted Echoes (Kif)
Recloose - Us vs Us (Rush Hour)
 Mat Johnson - Typerope (Itiswhatitis)
 Larry Heard - Loosefingers (Alleviated)
Iken - Image Of A Drawn Sword (Real Soon)
Nu Era - We Think Electronic (Twisted Funk)
Kettel - Cuddle And Then Leave (DUB)
Missy Elliott - Pass That Dutch (Elektra)
I:Cube Rza - Can You Deal With That? (Versatile)

 10 albums:
Two Banks Of Four - Three Street Worlds (Red Egyptian Jazz)
Prefuse 73 - One Word Extinguisher (Warp)
Pavel Kostiuk - The Musicals (2000 Black)
 Yotoko - Wet Ink (Delsin)
 Pole - Pole (Mute)
Matthew Herbert Big Band - Goodbye Swingtime (Accidental)
As One - So Far (So Good) (Ubiquity)
Alex Cortex - Inwards (Ann Aimee)
Rhythm Sound - The Artists/The Versions (Burial Mix)
John Tejada - The Toiling Of Idle Hands (Immigrant)

And here's my tips for 2004, as posted on littledetroit.net today - all in
lowercase for some reason - guess I was in a lowercase mood :)

newworldaquarium - was lucky enough to hear some of the tracks for his
forthcoming peacefrog lp at the weekend and they were absolutely
jaw-droppingly deep. plus 154's strike should at last see the light of
 day...

aroy dee/mos - again, got a sneak peek at his new stuff at the weekend and
can't wait to get it on vinyl...

real soon records - the further details and iken eps are superb, and with
carl craig mixes of ultramarine to follow there's hopefully plenty more in
 this vein...

rei loci jason brunton - looking forward to loads of new stuff from the
 iridite boys...

elijah - watch out for my boy laurence hughes! a real talent, and he's just
 warming up...

arne weinberg - going from strength to strength...

digital soul - returning at last with nuff proper techno. forthcoming d5 ep
 is amazing...

down low - responsible for the techno record of the year for me in the shape
of dan curtin's distort.artchive.desire, plus upcoming stuff from connection
 machine and convextion - mmm...

ampoule crew - can't wait for the lucky easy album on ann aimee...

mat jonson/itiswhatitis - some of the best 12s of the last couple of years,
 really want to hear more...

 luciano - as above...

vince watson - on top form right now, and look out for some beautiful stuff
on emoticon and headspace very soon...

oliver hacke - really feeling his work on trapez and traum, glitched-up
stuff with the all-important (and all-too-rare) soulful elements present and
 correct...

 Cheers,

I've checked the Soma website but can't find anything on other labels.

HI all,

Just to add. I saw Stephen Brown live at House of God a few years back. He was
awesome live. Don't miss that!!!

I wonder if any shops still keep stock of his real time Records releases. I
could not get hold of his later releases. ANy recommendations?

Regards,

Collin Chen
